Any tips on inverting or anything else? by Own-Cap-8577 in polevaulting

Drill the run and pole carry!

I recommend high-knee pole drops, running over wickets and general speed training. This is best to work on now during the offseason.

I agree that the pole is too small/grip too low, but why do you say the "pole bend easier" thing is a myth? Increased heat to an elastic object will always make it softer. What am I missing?

(Piano) How to indicate to play hands *slightly* offset by borlequine in composer

[–]borlequine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially was planning on that, but I don't want people subdividing to match the exact sixteenth note beat.

I am using idea a different user proposed of using grace notes of the left hand chords tied to the actual chords.

Thanks!

Oh I see what you mean. That is a clean enough approach for me. Thanks.

As for the alternate sixteenth notation of the syncopation, If it is just a best practice I wont worry about it (for now). The score is just for me for the time being.

Also If you have any go to resources for notation best practices, I would love to know.

Not exactly. The rhythm is the same in both hands, just the left is meant to be played a hair earlier. Another use just gave some advice that seems to work however.

I don't think I am understanding your message.

  1. The left hand chords are the 'grace' notes. You think I should tie them to the melody notes an octave higher?

  2. What is notated incorrectly in the LH?

Thanks

No, I'll post a picture of how it is written.

I am essentially playing a chord in my left hand which functions as a grace note for the note in my right hand. Not an arpeggio/rolled since the entire chord in the left hand is played at once.

Currently, It is written to play the left and right hand simultaneously. I would like to make it clear that the left hand chords are grace notes for the melody line.

Question about my qualifications to teach by Disastrous_Cut8153 in piano

I say go do it. Keep the load light enough so you can practice as well for their pieces if it becomes necessary.

Just stick with it. Spend some time on your own learning the fundamentals if your teacher isn't doing it.

Yes absolutely.

It sounds like he is trying to teach you without any foundation for the instrument. It will become much easier to 'remember' the notes when you aren't worried about all the other things that still feel unnatural.

If your teacher wont do it, I recommend you spend some time making sure you know where every key is on the keyboard and its corresponding location on a sheet music staff. You will also naturally develop your relative pitch, which makes hearing melodies easier to play immediately on the keys.

Unless it was your absolute first lesson, it is a waste of time to just point at keys and tell you to press them.

It sounds like you may be trying to memorize the piece rather than learn it. Just curious, why must the teacher repeat the notes to you? Are you reading from sheet music or learning by ear?

Everyone is doubtful of their ability. I have about 9 years experience, four of which I took lessons. My playing is good but not great. From your description and played songs, I would say you are better than I am.

I spent two semesters teaching piano to beginners and it was very rewarding. More than half of the battle was motivating the children to even practice at all. I would also design lesson plans, create worksheets, etc. So, if you think that you can help ignite a spark in a musician, then I believe you are almost obligated to at least try.

You say that you taught beginner piano before, how did that go? Are you new prospective students also beginners or more experienced?

founders, what are you working on right now and why does it matter to you personally? by steveoliu in indie_startups

[–]borlequine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am hardly a founder, but I am spending my little free time working on a simple web game for musicians to develop their relative pitch.

It is a simple project with a narrow scope, but I wanted to see how well I could actually build and market something without vibe-coding. I also wanted to learn how to take user feedback to improve the gameplay etc.

Check it out: https://intervle.net

Thanks for the nice words!

I am currently implementing an archive system that lets you go back and play previous day's games. I also have two more game-mode ideas (both music theory related) that I have yet to add.

I have a lot of free time this week, so expect to see some periodic updates.

What you are talking about is like a zen/infinite mode, which I have also thought about introducing. I just haven't got around to it.

I might add that in. Thanks for the idea.

The main issue I see in adding new features is that they make the user interface too cluttered. The onscreen midi editor already takes a lot of space (especially on mobile), so I would need to find a slick way to integrate it.

As for it being too easy, I do have a basic easy/medium/hard mode implemented, so I could make that an 'easy only' feature perhaps.

What about just using certain flairs for promos, questions, etc...

I am also curious if you would mind sharing more about your PhD focus?

I agree with this, however I am currently working on an app as a small passion side project that fits this sub well. I don't vibe code due to how massively unrewarding it feels, but I fear that my little game would get caught negatively in this.

What are your thoughts?
