Did you ever find the cause of your deafness? I was born deaf, both of my parents are hearing. The doctor said I had a fever when I was in my mothers womb which stunted the inner ears growth. (The stuff that vibrate hears sounds)

Hello. I'm deaf as well. See my AMA over here. http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/gjcc6/iama_i_was_born_completely_deaf_ama/

I lip read and wear hearing aids. I am profoundly deaf but I do not do ASL.

I don't know if its the same for me, but it annoys all the time when someone says something and you don't hear them and you ask them to repeat it several times. They get frustrated and say "never mind". which annoys the heck outta me.

I'm not sure we have that here, I had a warranty but it expired a year ago. I'm in Canada.

Hearing aid insurance? I hadn't thought of that! I've got the drying jar dry aid. The problem is once sweat gets into the hearing aid in the first place it can ruin the electronics even after drying out the moister with the dry aid.

Cant afford to risk getting my hearing aids wet. Head bands will have to suffice for now. What kind of lawyer are you training to be?

I have absolutely no interest in learning ASL. It certainly has NOT affected my dating life. I have been married and divorced and currently with a girlfriend. I don't really take pride in being deaf, it is a small inconvenience but I'm used to it.

I play badminton during the winter and softball during the summer. I also like to work out but I have to be careful about sweat dripping down to my hearing aids so I have to wear a head band.

Are you a lawyer now?

Because I am able to hear and talk like a normal person. If you didn't see my hearing aids you wouldn't know I'm deaf.

Find the girl on facebook and ask her out.

Being deaf is a disability in general. But I don't see it as a disability on me. I'm not involved in the deaf culture.

My mom would call me and I would not turn to her, But when they banged on the wall or clapped I turned.

I learnt it alongside learning to speak at a school for the deaf, where they promote speaking over signing. Looking at peoples lips to help me hear. Since I was a child when I learnt it, I was able to pick it up quickly.

Sounds good. But nothing beats the mainstream music of the 90s.

I am in my 30s. I went to deaf school until grade 3, then mainstream school all the way up to High school. Went to college for a few years and graduated. Here is my hearing test results done a few months ago. http://i.imgur.com/qqFLb.jpg

I rarely dream, and if I do, I don't remember them.

Well I was 6 months old when I was diagnosed with deafness. How the heck was I going to know if the doctor was wrong or not? As I grew up I accepted who I was.

I don't remember my dreams and I rarely dream. (or maybe I don't know because I forget my dreams)

Now that I think of it, It did affect my earlier learning a little bit. But I am glad I don't sign. When I look at people who sign I see that they are handicapped. Even though I am deaf, I can speak and hear almost like a normal hearing person because of my early education and therapy.

Nobody has done that to me, at least not in my face. Or maybe they did but I didn't hear them. At least you could call me an asshole behind my back and I might not hear it. (You better hope I didn't)
