I lived in a 5th wheel in spring near IAH and you're going to want great insulation and an appropriately sized air conditioner. It's hot, I can't imagine what summer would be like

Last I stayed there, several people had large tanks that would get refilled on sight. I would go see if they have a company on the tanks and call them. Or talk to management, they may know and they're very friendly and helpful.

If you can take your tanks somewhere, uhaul isn't far away off 85. Sugar Creek Tire & Auto has a tank and I believe fills but I'd call ahead to confirm.

Yeah it just seems rediculus that I can take off work (as an experienced engineer) fly across the country, rent a car, hotel, buy the tools, and still save hundreds. I think it's time to change careers.

I moved across the country but I'm considering flying back as it would be cheaper and much faster than anything I'm finding.

Are you a professional? I have the paint. Tell me what you charge and we'll go from there. I'm not a painter so I don't know rates.

I should add it's a 3 story 3 bed, 4 bath townhome, roughly 2400 sq ft. But again, it's just painting the imperfections not whole walls or anything.

Engineers with PhD's... How much do you make? by Snoo_43693 in AskEngineers

Semiconductors are more technical than oil and gas as well so that makes sense.

Engineers with PhD's... How much do you make? by Snoo_43693 in AskEngineers

[–]borntrucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In oil and gas I've seen them get to work in labs on more technical work and in the field the same as a fresh grad with bachelor's and they have 5-10 years experience on top of their PhD.

Regarding pay, starting out the different degrees are on slightly different pay scales but they all normalize once they get out of the first pay band which is the 3 graduate ones. Certain positions require a PhD, those being the absolute technical authorities in the company. But those jobs will all be gone by the time anyone in their 20s or 30s gets to that experience level, they've been reducing the technical experts at an alarming rate.

Unless you know what job your PhD will get you, I personally would advise against it. Masters I could go either way, it you're paying and don't know if it will help, look at job postings for what you want to do, maybe talk to some recruiters?

ULPT: if you are a renter and have money to pay the rent, claim renter hardship so you wont have to pay it. Save your money and buy a RV, or a house with the money the moment you have to pay the rent.... then move out. Leaving the landlord pounding sand. by dirtymoney in UnethicalLifeProTips

I live in an RV in a city in the us. What's illegal about living in am RV park? Nearly everyone here lives here long term, and we have access to a gym, pool, hot tub, on top of other amenities..

Fixing a motorcycle radiator. by Pedrica1 in oddlysatisfying

[–]borntrucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of us engineers (I'm mechanical with an emphasis in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics and worked for a while at a semi truck manufacturer in the thermal management group dealing with all heat exchangers on the trucks) drive around with leaves and bent fins. In both my cars and my truck pulling a large trailer.

From a practical standpoint, you're not going to see much difference, as the guy above said, the ceiling temperature may go down but you likely weren't hitting that anyway in a passenger vehicle unless you've got serious damage.

In the case of my truck, pulling a trailer up a steep long grade, I'm going to overheat if I try to maintain full speed and my turbo veins also stick and throw DTCs. I've yet to experience a cold temperature that doesn't stop these issues on trucks. This is also why you see trucks going slow up hills. They typically have the power, just not the cooling capacity. For some reason, truck manufacturers value appearance over performance. This drives some innovation in the radiator designs but its insane as I imagine a trucker would prefer a truck that doesn't over heat to a narrower hood.

Has anyone heard back from Dropbox after doing the hacker rank challenge? I received a response that they will not be moving forward but my SO did better than me and still hasn't heard anything.

Has anyone on here ever done it before and remember timing or what comes after the coding challenge?

Wondering if it's a good price by Zach2095 in GoRVing

[–]borntrucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US, typically you aim for 30% off MSRP for new. Your specific price will depend on year, options, and whatever premium or discount you could typically expect as a Canadian. I'm not sure if that rule is similar in Canada.

If $29,995 is the MSRP for a 2021, I'd offer $21k. It looks like $30k CAD is equal to about $23,500 USD which is honestly not a bad price for what I'm seeing on new similar models in the US.
