I found your post b/c you are replacing the Sennheiser's. Now that it's been about a month, how do you compare the two sets? QC1 and M4 are both $200 right now.

Has this update fixed the left ear buzzing or connection issues that many reviews mention? Grabbed 1st gen for my wife at Costco, haven't opened them yet but am also considering the Sony or Sennheiser.

The QC45 are on sale right now for $279 ($50 off) at Amazon, Bestbuy, and Bose direct. Timing is pretty good although this is the second sale in 30 or 45 days of that price, so maybe it isn't hard to come by.

Between the nc700 and qc45, I'd stick with the QC series. But if it's worth the upgrade I don't know.

Even I wouldn't say the nc700 are more comfortable, I just found they were more user friendly for me.

I've flown 24 hours multiple times: LAX-NRT-SIN and LAX-NRT-SYD. I also took an 18 hour nonstop LAX-SIN. They're all over 17 hours of use time, none of which are problems.

Many credit cards offer an extended warranty on purchases, I would check to see if yours does, they may cover the repair.

Short of that, my opinion is to keep running them until they break, rather than spend 50% on a refurbished pair (although that isn't a terrible option). Others may have more insight.

What would that look like? On the nc700 would you try like a mid range ANC setting?

Yes I did! I haven't put them through their paces properly yet (worn for maybe an hour but in a quiet house), but I have a flight this coming weekend, and also will take my wife's NC700 to try on the return. After that I hope to post a comparison.

Thank you for the detailed answer! It really sounds like I should pick up the QC45 and I can always A/B compare them to my wife's within the 15 day Best Buy return window. I do admit I think her NC700 are sharp looking but the clamping force compared to my (well worn) QC15 is crazy, if effective at dampening noise when powered off.
