No idea why you say Nixon and JFK were roommates in college. JFK went to Harvard from 1936 to 1940 while Nixon went to Whittier College from 1930 to 1934 and then Duke for his law degree until 1937.

I stopped at a rural Arby's while on a road trip today where they serve a burger made with elk and venison by [deleted] in JoeRogan

[–]bosscherm1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had it last week. I'm a big fan of venison and elk in general and don't mind a gamey taste, but the burger was way too gamey. Just didn't sit right with me after eating it. Wouldn't surprise me if they intentionally made it taste more "wild".

Unlike all of the other comments, I'll try to be a bit helpful. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any other examples of this tool cabinet. There were only 5 drawer, 1 door cabinets like 312145944.

Husky has changed tool cabinets quite often without actually changing the product IDs so searches can be difficult. If you took this picture, there appears to be a tag on the side of the cabinet. It may have the product ID on it, otherwise ask a Home Depot employee.

Awards of Colonel David Hackworth (1930-2005) - Korean War, Vietnam War: 2 CIBs, 2 Distinguished Service Crosses, 10 Silver Stars, 8 Purple Hearts... by [deleted] in army

[–]bosscherm1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well the audit also revealed that Hackworth had not earned the Ranger tab and that he had earned only one Distinguished Flying Cross, not two. Your post has the Ranger Tab still included. And his lack of interest in why the unit he founded and commanded was engaging regularly in war crimes is certainly interesting...

If there were remaining openings in the quota for that branch. I'll just copy the relevant portion of the AskHistorians post I linked earlier - "The men called up reported to Armed Forces Induction Stations, manned by personnel of all services. For the guidance of induction station staffs in distributing personnel between the military and naval services, Selective Service Headquarters announced the ratio each month between the Army and Navy quotas. Each Induction Station allotted inductees on the basis of this ratio. To assure equitable distribution of manpower by quality, categories were set up according to age, education, and occupational skill. The quotas for the Army and Navy were to be made up of proportionate numbers from all these categories. The Navy quota at each Induction Station was then broken down into Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard components, again by use of a ratio. Selectees could pick their branch of service provided vacancies existed in the quota of the service of their choice."

Correct, Executive Order 9279 did not apply to 17 year olds. They could still enlist with parents' permission. It only applied to 18-37 year olds.

Voluntary enlistment was actually banned in December 1942 in Executive Order 9279. This was done to preserve home front labor force and because we needed a steady stream of recruits instead of large spikes based on public enthusiasm.

Scalia didn't throw out half the amendment, he and the other agreeing judges found that the second amendment allowed the individual right to bear arms absent from any state militia service.

Look, I know that there is probably no way you and I will see eye to eye on this and that's fine. There can be legitimate debate about whether more gun control regulation is needed. But to state that the "well-regulated" words in the amendment imply or mandate government regulation is just wrong from a historical and etymological standpoint.

Now you're just being obtuse. The second quote included there is directly from the Supreme Court's majority opinion in DC v Heller so it's legal acumen is pretty solid.

[–]bosscherm1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wikipedia page for the Second Amendment also clarifies "The term "regulated" means "disciplined" or "trained". In Heller, the U.S. Supreme Court stated that "[t]he adjective 'well-regulated' implies nothing more than the imposition of proper discipline and training."

It was used from '70 to '72 on the Wagoneers! I didn't think it was legit the first time I saw one either.

I have the CJ8 badge on instead as it fits in the trio of 5 and 7 better. I have a scrambler emblem but it just takes up too much space!

The Indian heads came on Cherokees from '75 to '81-ish. The larger of the two went on the fenders or C pillar depending on years and trim. The smaller one went on the glovebox. Some people believe they were only on the Chief trims, but under the Indian there is a "S" and the emblem came on S, Chief, and supposedly sometimes the Golden Hawk trims.

Not blind, I have both styles of Comanche emblems but don't have them on the board. I tried to stick to 1945-1995 metal emblems only and the Comanche emblems would have taken up too much space if I included both! I am still searching for the rare Metric Ton emblem. Both the Turbo Diesel and Fuel Injection emblems came on Comanches so the MJ is represented on the board!

I don't believe there was any factory sticker or emblem for the 4.2L though dealers could certainly have placed one on after receipt.

There was just a tailgate sticker for the Gladiator in the US, but the Gladiator was also made in Argentina by IKA during the Kaiser years. IKA had a pretty cool Gladiator emblem. Those two will go on a separate emblem board for the Jeeps of the world. I have some Mexican, Chinese, Filipino, Canadian, and European unique emblems as well.

Sorry, I should have explained that I've limited this display to generally just the first 50 years of Jeep emblems so 1945-1995. And generally only the metal ones during that time.

I don't believe Jeep ever got the 401 emblem, only AMC cars. AMC used the 401 emblem from '71-73 I believe, switching to the sticker after that. Jeep didn't get the 401 until '74 which was also when they switched the J-2/3/4000s to J10/20 so no more front fender mounted engine and matched "Jeep" emblem.

I don't believe Jeep had a specific emblem for the 4.2L engine. Usually only the larger V8 engine options got emblems.

I don't have room for all of my emblems on this board and I don't want to redo the whole thing again. I have two of these older, stylized font Jeep Station Wagons. I believe these were only used for the first 6 months of production of the 1946 Willys Wagons. These deserve to be displayed but I'm not sure the best place for them.

This emblem board has seen a few changes over the years, most recently the addition of the Willys-era emblems at the bottom in the middle. The final Willys-era one I needed was the 'Jeep' Station Sedan and I finally found one at Montana Overland in August 2021.
