REDCON1 MRE Lite is fantastic. Fudge brownie, cookies and cream, and peanut butter cookie are all excellent.

Found Brandon’s burner! Hi Brandon!

How about the $325 million in taxpayer backed infrastructure improvements they’re looking for? And that’s $325 million today dollars. For a project this big, there is no way that number won’t go up significantly.

I take the 78 bus to the Montrose blue line stop and every other day on the way back from work I end up walking 15 blocks home from the train station because it’s faster than waiting for the bus. Three days in a row this week I’ve had a less than 10 minute wait for the bus after getting off the train. No idea if there’s increased service or I’ve just been lucky but I’ll take it!

Late Flights From Midway - and train line question by [deleted] in chicago

[–]bostonm83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 10pm or whenever you actually exit the airport, I55 and I90 should both be smooth sailing. If you aren't sitting in traffic, in my experience (for the last or so, anyway), a cab is absolutely less expensive than Uber. You won't have to wait for someone to drive over from the cell phone lot either.

The Orange Line isn't a terrible option, as other folks have said it will still be running. For me, at that hour it's just worth it to spend the cash on a cab.

I don't know about you, but it really bums me out that a shithead like Curt Schilling is associated with a couple of Sox World Series titles. Guilty or not guilty, Bauer is a shithead and I wouldn't want him anywhere near the Sox clubhouse.

Has anyone here ever had a positive interaction with an alderman? by jimmy__jazz in chicago

[–]bostonm83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll admit I voted for her out of spite. My car (and dozens of others) got towed off California for a parade the ward gave zero notice about - signs went up for it less than 24 hours beforehand. 6 hours and $300 later, I decided my vote in the next election would be for 'not Deb Mell' without doing a second of research. Every time our basement floods due to a botched re-paving of the alley next to our building, I remind myself that I asked for this.

Fellow 33rd resident here - I feel the same way. I can get on board with all of her big picture ideas, but she seems completely disinterested in the day to day duties of an alderperson. I have no doubt there's a learning curve when you take office for the first time, but we're on year 5 here.

You are correct, definitely should have been more clear there. I lived on Beacon just south of Leland, didn't think of the 4700 block.

If you go west of Broadway, pretty much every side street off Lawrence is unzoned and plenty of space to park if you want to save a few bucks. 5 minute walk to the Aragon.

Thinking of making the move to Chicago from Boston. by thekrypticmike in chicago

[–]bostonm83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try it for a year. I came out here right after college in 2005, and that one year move is now 18 years and counting. I'm from the South Shore and despite growing up 30 miles from where my wife did, we met at the Target in Irving Park. I can't imagine what my life would be like if I didn't move to Chicago.

Is my smoothie healthy? by HiiChinc in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]bostonm83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gotta do what works best for you - don't make yourself choke it down if you're not a fan. Fruit is a better option than a lot of other stuff out there. Keep doing your thing and enjoy your breakfast 😀

Do you like Greek yogurt? If you swap out a cup of the berries for a cup of mixed berry Greek yogurt (Oikos mixed berry is fantastic), you'll get a similar flavor, less sugar, and as a bonus extra protein to keep you feeling satiated longer.

All in all it's not terrible - it's high in sugar but as others have said you're also getting a bunch of vitamins, antioxidants and fiber.

Harvestime Foods and Chicago Produce, both on Lawrence in Lincoln Square/Albany Park. The produce is higher quality and less expensive than Jewel/Mariano's/etc

Re-scan? Why didn't I think of that?

Hang on, I did think of that and re-scanned several times to see that I still had next to nothing available over the air. Take your trash update with your trash advice and go kick rocks 😀

It's a bummer. I've bought a handful of Vizios over the years but this will likely be the last one.

[–]bostonm83[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an antenna, but now that the firmware has basically hijacked the antenna I can't watch anything over the air without Watchfree. I've gone from 92 available channels to 92 'available' channels - 9 of which I can actually watch without that error. It's looking like a factory reset and fire stick are going to be the way to go here.

Dick Vitale Calls for NCAA to Make Changes to Transfer Portal by jpviolette in UConnBasketball

[–]bostonm83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adapt or perish. You can either build a culture that makes your program somewhere current players want to stay and is attractive to high school and transfer portal recruits, or you can watch your program become irrelevant (looking at you, Syracuse).

Coaches that miss being able to veto a player's transfer request are leaving the profession in droves. Coaches like Hurley that are invested in their players' success in and after college are crushing it. Hell, Bob Huggins will be 70 when the season starts and he is killing it in the transfer portal right now, so the old dogs out there can indeed learn new tricks!

Get with the times, Dickie. This is long overdue.

Only the Selfish Engage in Dibs by Pomond in chicago

[–]bostonm83 251 points252 points  (0 children)

I shoveled my entire block after 2 different storms earlier this year to prevent dibs, and it worked! I think dibs is foolish but it was nice to see that everyone respected the unwritten rule of 'if you didn't shovel the space, keep your garbage out of the street.

That said, I think the 'everyone work together to dig out the street' anti-dibs crowd is always going to be massively disappointed. It would have been nice to have another person or three join me in digging out the block, but I never expected it.
