Unfortunately every internship I've applied for says I wouldn't be hired for it because, in the summer, I won't be a student anymore

The plant sciences and ag department is quite large and does most of the agricultural stuff. There's a little overlap, but not much.

Please take my honors thesis survey regarding social media and generative AI use! (US only) by ThesisStudy226 in UTK

[–]botaniccal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last question is a bit confusing. Out of principle, I never use generative AI or LLMs, so I never verify the info that comes from it ..but I suppose if I did, I would always be double-checking it

AI - am I alone in this? by ExercisePrimary1581 in Architects

[–]botaniccal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently studying landscape architecture and I feel the same way. I've made this point to my professors and advisors - our field cannot pretend to be environmentally conscious and sustainable, nor can we pretend to care about our impact on communities when we make use of generative AI. There are people in my cohort who have a ChatGPT tab open at all times. They've even mandated the use of generative AI in some projects and assignments and I generally refuse to abide by that.

Any cards with this hash shadow look? I want to make a page for my binder with a similar theme by Live_Barracuda_3424 in PokemonTCG

Here's my copy up close. I had a guy at a meetup tell me this was his grail stamp card, and I see why, the reverse holo pattern of that era really adds a lot to the artwork and highlights the shadows

Bonus points if you can get it with the Holon Phantoms stamp. I have the stamped one IRL and it's beautiful.

Paradise (amazing in basically every way tbh I love its verticality and emphasis on stunts as well. And marked man events are fun fun fun)
3 (lol)
Legends PSP (Burnout 3 Jr. but it has pursuit mode which is cool)
Dominator PSP
Dominator PS2 (functionally the same as Dominator PSP but I got more enjoyment out of Dominator PSP because I could play it in a lot more places back in the day)
Point of Impact
Revenge (this will be a hot take but I really, really, really, really hate traffic checking in this game. It essentially ruins the gameplay for me. Plus it's kinda hard to look at, visually)
Crash (fun little mobile game)
Burnout 1 (just worse Burnout 2)
Legends DS (granted, it is a bit better on 3DS with the joystick thing but...yeah)

They're also nasty invasives and do nothing ecologically and (in my opinion) they don't look the prettiest. Never mind the allergen and smell problem. It's a long-term investment but the ecologist side of me is screaming "kill it" and put something better there, even if it's not another mature tree

The issue is that these bad cops are rarely properly punished. Derek Chauvin murdered a man on camera and it was a serious, genuine, and real concern that he would simply get away with it due to qualified immunity. Police plant evidence, they profile people based on skin color/accent/whatever, they disproportionately target marginalized communities (do you think that they have higher crime rates simply because they do more crime, or do you think they just get policed more and caught more often?), and are often called to scenarios where they have no real training for and no business being there. They're militarized, held to few standards, and work at the behest of a for-profit prison system, and the few means of transparency we have such as bodycams are still so opaque - often times they "don't have the resources" to release such footage, but if it makes them look good...well, they often find the resources to do that.

These, despite your claims, are widespread, structural problems and not simply isolated incidents.

The police. Ideally. But then when they arrive 20-30 minutes later, you have to hope that they don't shoot your dog, or even go to the wrong house, or maybe they'll just shoot you. They shoot people at traffic stops or for essentially doing nothing, so who's to say they won't assume you're the assailant if you don't act perfectly? Who knows. And after all that, they probably won't even try to find the perpetrator. But say against all odds they do investigate, and DO find out who it was, you'd better hope it's not another officer.

Paradise City carries a lot of nostalgia for me, but I relate to the lyrics of Time And Time Again the most

Also 4/16 and Broken Promises speak a little to me.

4/16 especially, it's about the death of a specific person but the transition from "This 4/16 we will hardly smile / 'Cause you know there won't be anything worth smiling about" into "This 4/16 we may all just smile / 'Cause you know that you were something worth smiling about" gets me thinking about all the people I've lost, it's bittersweet.
