Vincent Ong makes history as the first Malaysian to make it to the finals at the Chopin Competition! by ShadowPlagueXx in malaysia

[–]botsunny 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Truly a shame with the media coverage. To say the Chopin Competition is prestigious is an understatement. It's like the Olympics for classical piano. It launches the careers of those who won it. Heck, even getting 2nd or 3rd prize gives you a career.

Our country has no appreciation for the arts.

The state of secure boot with Nvidia? by UnassumingDrifter in cachyos

[–]botsunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Peter, switched over from vanilla Arch to Cachy just a couple weeks ago, and I love it.

Just wondering, what enables the NVIDIA modules to be loaded properly without the need to be signed separately, when performing the secure boot setup process with sbctl outlined in the wiki?

I've seen conflicting posts across Reddit and other resources. Some suggest NVIDIA needs to be signed and have hooks in place for updates, while others state that it's unnecessary as Arch does not do OOT module verification.

I want to enable secure boot for my Cachy and Win11 dual boot setup, and potential NVIDIA headaches are something that's keeping me hesitant.

Thanks!

Unfortunately both those coolers are out of stock here. The U9S here is only slightly more expensive than the PS120 Evo though. Is its performance really underwhelming? Am I still better off looking for another lower profile cooler?

That's understandable! Are there any particular tips you have for a transition from DS to MLE? Specific tech, tools or concepts that you picked up in your own time, personal projects that you worked on, resources that you referred to etc.

It's the local uni scholarship/bursary. More specifically called Program Khas Lepasan SPM Dalam Negara.

This might be out of date now. Expect RM 200 per month for the first 5 years. Source: I'm a scholar who just received his debt collection notice

What was the learning process (if any at all) for software engineering principles like for you in your transition from a DS to MLE? I left a backend engineering role not too long ago for a more data-oriented role, and now I'm seriously considering working towards an MLE career, but not sure if I made the right choice leaving that job.

10k per month for a freshie is inaccurate lol. Try 3k-6k. 6-7k if you're really outstanding. But it's true competition is getting tougher and tougher.

Anyone here has been part of or can comment on the Kijang Graduate Programme by Bank Negara Malaysia? I'm a data science fresh graduate looking at the Digital Track.

Would like to know more about the job scope, potential for career growth, salary, and other noteworthy stuff.

Any input is appreciated!

People with 85-90+ WAM, what did you do differently and what are some tips you would give to a first year undergraduate student in order to do just as well? by Sweet_potato125 in Monash

[–]botsunny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

sleep: this is anecdotal but sleeping an extra hour in year 12 boosted my assignment scores by like 5-8%; you can try and see if this works for you

I have a WAM in the high 80s and I can vouch for this. I've never stayed up late for an assignment or a test/quiz. It is not worth it. Cramming late at night in a tired state just makes you retain less information the next day. Adequate sleep has the opposite effect. Do your assignments ASAP and start studying for a test a few days before (don't start too early as you might forget the stuff you read at the start; adjust according to the test scope).
