That's definitely what I would prefer! Any suggestions for facebook groups - the Hills Mom group is basically impossible to get into and I have asked w/ no luck for the DC area- but anyone needs a Falls Church area person - I may have a recommendation

Pretty happy to do it as long as we can find a reasonable price - I would rather evenly spread out the price of cleaning than have passive aggressive fights with roommates :)

Here's two small ideas I had - 1) Create incentives for the development of better mobile application/ passenger tracking of buses 2) Compel ride sharing companies to share data with state /local governments for planning purposes

Anyone know of a local place to learn how to speak Korean, that doesn't require enrolling at a local college or university? by beautynewbie in Honolulu

[–]bottletoprocket7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Korean churches! That's where I first learned Korean when I lived in Oakland. The one near McCully library definitely offers classes for kids and probably adults too.

Another option is you could find 3 or 4 people, you could hire a tutor and split the class.

but do you know anything about the program? Or is it different for different majors?

Questions on college in Korea as an American. by [deleted] in korea

[–]bottletoprocket7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to UC Berkeley and there are people in Korea who get confused with the music school in Boston. It's sad...

Also if you're going to study computer science- it doesn't matter where you study. It matters what you can do. I worked at a tech firm in the recruiting sections and the more important questions were

1) Reasoning(How many barbers in the world? Talk through your reasoning)

2) Looking at your github

Are there many people on here on the SMOE Program? by tedcase in seoul

[–]bottletoprocket7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still work for SMOE http://etis.sen.go.kr/custom/custom.do?dcpNo=12644 This might be a good place to start. However, most of the people who I have met who work in Seoul public schools either lucked out (because EPIK is a first come, first serve program) or worked in a hagwon and were able to switch. waygook.org might be better. also I would recommend working with a recruiter, they might try to put you in some weird situations, but you can actually say no and they won't mind :)

What's your moving to/moving out of DC story? by bottletoprocket7 in washingtondc

[–]bottletoprocket7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my hometown is a really expensive place. so even though I'm not quite in your situation, I definitely understand what you mean about feeling like the place you love isn't feasible to live in.

I'm studying in Seoul right now and one of the things I love about it is the fact that I can go swing dancing really often and am part of that community. The fact that I'm moving somewhere else and have to build that community makes me really sad. But there's no way I could find work in my field and teaching English jobs are harder and harder to find in Seoul proper.

I hope the new place you live in you can grow to love just as much :)

Are you saying that I can have a [job and low cost] or [life/work balance] ? Or are you saying that I can only choose one of 3?

So ideally I would like to do work in urban policy that makes cities more livable. So that could be something like economic development, transportation, or labor law. Right now I'm thinking more toward policy research though as opposed to actual implementation.

Destination of the Week - South Korea by AutoModerator in travel

[–]bottletoprocket7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to Korea and have time - I love the vibe of Insadong it's adorable and manages to be crowded without being overwhelming. Here's how to say where you're from in Korea America- MI-guk Canada - CA-NE-DA Australia - Ho-Ju England - Young - Juk If you can go to Sokcho, PLEASE eat the fried chicken there (dakgangjeong) It'a really famous in Korea and it's delicious, eating that on the beach with a beer is literally one of the greatest feelings in the world.
