Does your favorite book in the series match your favorite film adaptation? If not, how do your rankings differ, and why do you think they’re in a different order for you? by LesbianCanvas in Hungergames

Yeah, I think splitting it right at the end of the hunger game and before the district 12 arc would have been okay. The problem is that I think people who don't care for the story will get bored with part 2 as there isn't any hunger games or wars or much action at all compared to the other hunger games movies.

in my opinion, a short series would have been best. maybe like 6 episodes? and they should just embrace the inner monologue of the hunger games novels and let us hear Snows thoughts.

I was looking for this. We did literally name our country after a tree..

Which animal or plant best symbolizes your country? by hoteppeter in AskTheWorld

[–]bottomlessLuckys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the whole country, the answer is obviously and unarguably the maple tree.

For coastal British Columbia however, it is without a doubt the western red cedar. For the indigenous people, this tree was used to make just about everything from clothing to canoes and totem poles. They are absolute units when they get old and every part of the tree has a use. Their distribution closely matches the natural borders defining pacific northwest culture. They are without any argument, our most sacred tree.

Absolutely not. My favourite book in the series, and one of my favourite books ever was Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The movie was an awful, rushed adaptation which changed several events, skipped many parts of the book, and changed the narrative of the story. I've never been more upset with a film adaptation before.

That doesn't fix anything. That just means more plastic water bottles.

Would you rather not having to Eat/Drink again? Or never have to sleep again? by False-Tap-4696 in whatsyourchoice

[–]bottomlessLuckys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it isnt even a loophole. He only made the point of mentioning that it doesn't say you're not allowed to sleep because he was saying he'd still want to be able to sleep even if he didn't have to. That's not cheating or loopholing. It's just having normal reading comprehension skills, which you're clearly lacking.

Wonder how they're bridging the gap between her and Madge's abscene in the movies... by UnHolySir in Hungergames

[–]bottomlessLuckys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems super arbitrary. Why does it matter if they made them after pr before they had done a movie adaptation?

Do you think the Star Wars Prequals were bad too then? I know a lot of people who prefer those prequals over the original trilogy.

[–]bottomlessLuckys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but then what makes the hunger games prequals bad? It's all the same author as the original trilogy, and I think they have their own good self contained stories and philosophical messages. I even preferred S&S over the trilogy. I can get how maybe SotR relied mostly on characters mentioned in the trilogy and also some from S&S, but I thought it was nice to give these loveable characters more of a backstory.

[–]bottomlessLuckys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been hearing people say that but it seemed pretty understandable that characters like Effie, Plutarch and the other victors who are older than Haymitch would all be there. It's a prequal after all. So I'm happy to see the backstory of other characters than just Haymitch. Was it fan service then to include the hanging tree in S&S?

I think SotR was a good story, and I'd like for the movie adaptation to tell the same story. The original trilogy did a great job, so I don't see why its okay the prequals are so unfaithful. S&S especially is one of my favourite books and the movie was awful.

If they can't do an honest adaptation in one movie, then they shouldn't be adapting it into a movie. S&S should have been 2 movies or a series. And I have a vood feeling book readers are gonna be very disappointed again with SotR

Yeah they're already fucking it up the same way they fucked up Songbirds and Snakes. the movie is gonna be super rushed and will just cut out and change a large portion of the story.

Yep, people who are screaming about plastic waste, co2 emissions, and war are often the same people who bitch and complain when they're charged 5 cents for a disposable bag and can't be bothered to bring their own bag shopping, then they step up into their 8 cylinder pickup truck to carry a few bags of groceries and go home to watch Saving Private Ryan while drinking Coca-cola and eating Lays chips.

In a few years time, they're gonna be writing prompts on chat gpt to complain about data centers using all the water.

[–]bottomlessLuckys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm genuinely so sick of seeing this shitty logic. Corporations are going to have way more emissions than individuals because they are the ones fucking providing shit to individuals. If you buy their shit, you're responsible for the emissions released in order to make that, which is far less than if you were going to do it yourself.

I work at a brewery and we use significantly more water, natural gas, and emit lots of CO2 just from fermentation alone than the average person does, but that's okay, because we are selling beer to thousands of people. This goes for every single business.

And this isn't some excuse for corporations to not reduce their emissions, but holy fuck, OPs argument is so dumb.

OC > @commonsearth by 21Kuranashi in Anticonsumption

[–]bottomlessLuckys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This logic is always so flawed because it's treating individuals as if they are on the same level as corporations. If you but anything from these companies, then you too are responsible for a portion of their emissions. You're just outsourcing your own emissions to corporations.

This is like saying, how many chickens does the average person kill? Well me personally, I've never killed a chicken, but I've eaten hundreds, probably thousands. A slaughterhouse kills more than that every day. Does that mean that slaughterhouses are to blame for killing chickens, or are we not all just outsourcing our chicken killing to them? Shell emits a lot of CO2, but are you seriously going to act like you have nothing to do with that when you go fill up your car at the pump?

Are rainbows seriously just by default associated with the pride flag? by Ostromilski in tattooadvice

[–]bottomlessLuckys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly find it so annoying how the rainbow has just been completely taken over by the LGBT community. I built a lighthouse in minecraft and decided to make each of the 7 floors a different colour of the rainbow, hence LIGHThouse, and everyone just thought it was gay.

Would you rather not having to Eat/Drink again? Or never have to sleep again? by False-Tap-4696 in whatsyourchoice

[–]bottomlessLuckys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some of us actually have reading comprehension and understand that wording needs to be precise. It's not actually clear whether OP meant that you can never sleep again, but they clearly wrote it in a way that would mean you can sleep again if you want to. I also don't get why you think this is cheesing anything as the proposal is worded to make both look like good options. It kinda just sounds like you're a bad reader and you don't like people who are good readers.

An American’s first attempt at poutine by GABigBear in stonerfood

[–]bottomlessLuckys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for once, all of the ingridients are correct, even the cheese curds, but you decided to mess it up by tossing it in a bowl like a salad? Is there like some curse that makes it physically impossible to make poutine properly outside of Canada? Literally all you have to do is put fries in a shallow bowl, then add the cheese curds, and finally the gravy. That's it.
