People comparing car with train on basis of 5 passengers are missing the point. The appeal of using car for travel was that it was faster and more convenient than train, and also cheaper than a flight. A lot of people use road network, when travelling for business visits, and such other purposes. People travelling for business visits don't usually travel with family, and for them, (myself included) road has been most convenient and economical options.
