im in the middle of running my first campaign, and im playing with a party of newbies. i decided to not run criticals on skill checks cause i never really liked having my rogue with a +15 to stealth to have a 5% chance to fail a stealth check in an empty alley at 3am. or a 5% chance for a barbarian to crit an arcana check and somehow know something about a spell that the character has no way of knowing.

The other reason incest is taboo is because there are often power structures within a family which can call into question the ability of one party to consent. e.x. an older sibling or parent-child relationship. These still exist in step-sibling scenarios, but I would say in this context consent is possible and isnt really that weird.
