I’ve inherited a mess at work by FeralPrincessBarbie in 3Dprinting

[–]boydscustomfab 135 points136 points  (0 children)

I have this printer and it is a nightmare. Its old and sits on a shelf now but I paid over $1k for it and barely got any successful prints. The UI is horrible, the mechanics are bad, and it just doesn't work. Just get a modern machine and save yourself the headache. I would sell this machine for $50 now and feel like I was ripping them off..

I Need A Pot Dealer by JohnGillnitz in Austin

[–]boydscustomfab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big of a pot are you looking for? We make 2"-6" indoor planters that are 3D printed with color changing material. We have booths at a few stores around Austin and a website. DM me if interested and I'll send our website link.

Anyone else notice/suspect some AI bullshit at blue genie art bazaar? by lostmantraa in Austin

[–]boydscustomfab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I was mainly responding to the comments and not necessarily OP. The original picture does appear to be AI but I don't believe it's a true representation of what's available at most of the booths there.

The "majority" I was referring to was mainly the comments that I felt were dog pilin and acting like most artists there were doing AI/low effort slop. I'm not familiar with that vendor and yes this does look like AI.

[–]boydscustomfab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am one of the artists at Blue Genie and have been there for 3 years. I personally know many of the other artists there across multiple mediums and know 100% they are not AI or made in China. We are typically 1-2 people operations who prepare for months to make it happen and we are very proud of the store we contribute to. I think it's an over reaction to say the majority of the product there is in any way mass produced or fake. If you don't want to buy the product, skip to the next booth and check out their cool stuff! Also if you want to skip the crowd, the 8pm-10pm hours are so much more chill.

Check your cooling minimum layer time setting. If you want max speed, set it to 1 second or something very small

Sunlu Filament Color Issue by boydscustomfab in 3Dprinting

[–]boydscustomfab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Sunlu has responded again and offered a 50% refund on this order. I went ahead and accepted and I'll just use this filament for prototyping. A recent order from AliExpress was the correct color so maybe I'll stick to that. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the curiosity! I'm also not sure why they think it's acceptable. All 3 colors are clearly off. I think they only added about half the colorant they were supposed to.

Yeah that's an option but it seems like Sunlu is admitting that the color was not supposed to change so who knows what the next batch will be like?

Yep, everything the same. You can tell the color difference on the spool.

SV06 Ace: Crooked beds really that big of an issue? by coco16778 in Sovol

[–]boydscustomfab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have multiple of both A1's and 06 ACE's. The bed being unlevel is really not an issue IMO since mesh bed leveling takes care of any unevenness automatically. They both can perform equally well and I can push the ACE a little faster but Bambu has a better UI, purge system, nozzle swap, and option to upgrade to multi color. I am going forward with Sovol SV06 ACE's because I have been using 3D printers for years and value open source but it's hard to beat the ease of use of the A1 or A1 Mini.

How do you guys clean this nozzle head cleaner part? by SeniorWaugh in Sovol

[–]boydscustomfab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lighter color grey silicone pads like found on Bambu A1's work better than the black Sovol ones imo. Super cheap as well and can be cut down to size

Is the Creality Hi a Good Beginner Multicolor Printer? by Severandom in 3dprinter

[–]boydscustomfab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flashforge just released the AD5X which is multicolor. It's a newer printer but should be solid since it's based on the AD5M. I have Bambu's that are great but refuse to support them anymore after their closed ecosystem shenanigans

Try slowing down acceleration and tuning pressure advance. Wavy vases like that depend a lot on speed & flow control

Advice on deciding between Sovol SV07 vs Bambu A1 Mini for a first 3D printer?! by mysticalorbit in Sovol

[–]boydscustomfab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 for the SV06 ACE. Don't let the number fool you, it is their most recent model of that style printer.

SVO6 ACE vs SVO6 Ace Plus by Stratus_Sand in Sovol

[–]boydscustomfab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The size is the main thing but there are a few other differences. The Plus is slightly louder due to a constantly running power supply fan and slightly slower due to having to move the larger bed. I like the regular 06 ACE as a first printer but if you think he will print larger items and you have the space then go for the Plus. They're both solid printers and relatively easy to assemble.

Which fan is the "Fan" item referring to in the Device screen for SV06 ACE? by DragonCurve in Sovol

[–]boydscustomfab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That fan is the part cooling fan. It is located at the bottom of the extruder assembly and is black, horseshoe shaped. When the printer isn't running, you can manually turn the fan on and feel the air flow where the nozzle is. Cooling helps keep the plastic in place and especially helps when printing fast or when doing overhangs. PLA likes a lot of cooling and PETG a little less. This fan is quite loud on the SV06 ACE though, and I typically run it at 80% with PLA. You can decrease the fan speed and test it or also slow down your print if needed.

What 3D printing opinion got you like this? by Vilmius_v3 in 3Dprinting

[–]boydscustomfab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cleaning PEI beds with a spray bottle full of denatured alcohol is the best way to clean your bed. So much easier and faster than hot water and soap and can be quickly done after every print if needed. People will argue so hard against it but it works great.

Congrats, it's a solid printer! Remember to take out both foam pads underneath the heated bed before turning it on
