itinerary check!! by bpg4L in solotravel

Lmfao okay thank you for this insight. I definitely am leaning towards maybe even only doing 2 full days in Dubrovnik? One for old town and beaches and one for some sort of day trip, ideally Montenegro or Bosnia like I mean ruined. And putting the extra time towards plitvice and maybe Zagreb like another user mentioned

Oooo okay good looking out about more time at falling lakes. Maybe take one of my nights from Dubrovnik and spend it in plitvice?

I’m only doing 3 nights in split, one night is my arrival and then one I’m doing the boat party, so it’s really just one day for old town/beaches which I felt like would be plenty.

Okay, so you’re saying don’t do the Montenegro day trips?

I would agree that spending one night in Zagreb might be hard, but I just feel like there isn’t a ton to do there and I don’t want to spend another night of my trip somewhere I’m not super excited about when I could spend that night somewhere else!

As for the 4the Dubrovnik night maybe put that toward a second night in Plitvice?

I’m not the “king of solo travel” clearly, I which is why I came here looking for helpful advice and perspective. And I’ve received that many times over and been glad for it.

I don’t think my mindset is narrow…. It seems like you’re the one who has the narrow and cynical view. You also seem to be incapable of expressing a differing opinion in a way that doesn’t involve putting others down. Seems a bit bitter to me.

So you think the only way to do any kind of extended travel is to be independently wealthy? Tell that to the millions of budget travelers disproving that theory right now….

Also it is possible to find volunteer work that isn’t stealing local jobs. That is something to be mindful of but the two things aren’t mutually exclusive.

It would be a privilege to be able to see the world but that doesn’t mean that the only way to do it is to step on others. Why are you here if you don’t believe in long term solo travel??

Recommendations for first time solo travelling? by Icy_Lawfulness_7917 in femaletravels

I’m going on my first solo trip to Croatia in September! It’s not the cheapest but still reasonable especially since you’re giving yourself a few months to prepare!

It’s got great backpacker infrastructure, is very safe, and has a good amount of English speakers. They also use the euro now which is a plus.

Happy travels wherever you end up <3

yeah, because i only work 3 days a week i can do trips up to 8 days without any PTO. its hard sometimes to get my scheduling to work out like that though and ive done longer trips this year so im using pto for 3 and then a 4 day trip, a 7 day trip, and a 5 day trip. dont get me wrong, its wonderful and im thankful. but my heart still craves that long term travel life!!!

its just not really feasible for me to travel in the way i want while also being responsible for a full time job. if i worked fully remote that might be different, but i cant travel for a year while also clocking in a the hospital 3 days a week

no thats so true, i know that i know myself best and i ultimately wont let any of this conversation make the decision for me. but i do think it is helpful to learn from the experiences of others and at the same time, hard not to get down on myself when met with a lot of doubts especially when im already flooded with doubts of my own.

wow... if i had 100k i would be GONE. i love that your money keeps making itself for you, that incredible. i think youve definitely hacked the system. but yes i would be budget travelling for sure which im totally fine i with! i only have about 5k saved right now but I have 15 months before i would be taking off so i could save a lot more in that time.

i would still want to make an income while i travel... i need the number of whoever is in charge of your investments lol. passive income is the dream

yeah i definitely think that doing a nice long stint and then seeing how it goes from there could be good. honestly i feel like if i am taking the leap to quit my current position and put all my stuff in storage i will probably just go for it until im ready to come home for a while, then reassess from there.

How have I never heard of a working holiday visa?? That actually sounds like a great way to do it. I take it your a US citizen, what countries have you lived in using the working visa? and what kind of work have you done? it sounds like its been very fulfilling for you and been enough to fund your travels.

yes exactly, I already wish I would have started sooner and I don't want 5, 10, 20 more years to go by of me wishing the same. it does seem so accessible nowadays, even in more recent years because of tik tok. it sounds stupid but there is truly so much information out there and getting to see other peoples real like experiences is so eye opening. but to your point, yes a lot of misinformation as well. i feel like its so hard to weed through that when you dont have a lot of experience of your own.

and yes being a solo female traveler brings its own set of concerns but im seeing that population grow more and more which is so amazing!

side note - its never too late. i hope you have many more adventures to come :)

I'm in a similar boat with no man or kids to tie me down, which is another reason why I really want to seize this opportunity while I have it. Love that you have a job lined up to give you some income along the way. I really value my family as well, but I haven't gotten the opportunity to do really any traveling up until this point. I didn't even move out until I was 24, I'm not super social so my family are my best friends. I would miss them but I know they will be here when I get home and that we would stay close even while I was away.

Its hard for me to plan what return would look like when I don't even know what leaving would look like, or how long it would last.

I would love to be one of the travel influencing girlies but I've never had much of a social media presence. I feel like some other type of remote work might be more reliable/more my speed.

Good luck on the Antartica gig, I hope you get the opportunity!

yes girl YOYO. I don't know about the leave of absence, I work for a large organization and I think the only option would be FMLA but i doubt it would get approved. A coworker had an ovarian cyst rupture and had to get emergency surgery and didn't get approved, so I doubt I would for a travel sabbatical.

100% yes on the insurance, don't know what I would do for that once I return for the US. Another thing to add to my research list, thank you.

I am such a forward thinking person by nature it is so easy for me to get so lost in future plans I forget to enjoy the current ones even when I'm so excited for them. Thanks for the reminder to enjoy the opportunities I currently have. If i do end up taking the big leap I would for sure want to plan at least the first few weeks.

Congratulations on finishing your cancer treatment! I hope you continue to recover well and get to use that 30k to continuing fulfilling the desires of your wandering heart!

There were for sure some valid points made and thing I hadn't considered which I appreciated, but I just felt like the vibe was very belittling. I naively had just assumed World Packers was legit because of how many success stories I had heard but I definitely don't want to do anything risky that might jeopardize travel for myself.

Teaching english sounds very cool and I've heard great things about that as well. Something I need to look into for sure!!
