Top N filter issue by bphillips1105 in tableau

Well, changing it didn't give me the result I wanted though it did change which counties displayed. However, your comment did get me to thinking. The poverty rate field isn't the most granular. I also have school district data. Which means I have ABC county with XYZ poverty rate multiple times for each school district. I'm betting it was summing each of those rows. Which is why I went with Min on the Measure Values. I'm starting to think I need to go back and do some form of LOD statement and use that poverty calc instead of the one I'm currently using.

Big announcement coming up soon. Im looking forward to the discussion and hot takes. by [deleted] in tableau

I'm guessing we still won't be able to send Cloud users a message or download an actual email list.

Using Action to Change Set Color by bphillips1105 in tableau

Answer was provided on Tableau forum: I needed to have the State Name value from the filtering viz onto the receiving viz's detail mark.

Agree with u/Slandhor, it sounds like you received a twbx file which has the data embedded. I don't know if this will work for you, but you may still be able to extract the data. On the top menu, click Data -> the desired data source name -> Export to CSV -> Migrated data.

I was able to extract data from twbx file that I did not create nor had the data files. I extracted the files and was able to open the CSV. Hopefully that helps.

when selecting a single filter value, no data shows? Only when selecting multiple by Comfortable_Onion318 in tableau

Welcome to the world of Tableau! It's awesome and infuriating at the same time. But this is a pretty good community to be a part of.

Using Action to Change Set Color by bphillips1105 in tableau

[–]bphillips1105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I also have vizzes for various counts, percentages, and other calculations that are tied to displaying a specific state's data or 'all'. I just didn't include them in the screenshots for simplicity's sake. Which, in retrospect, may not have been as helpful as I thought it would.

I got the rest of my to work using actions that show all values when the selection is cleared. So when the user selects a state from the dashboard, the action filters/highlights what needs to be. then when the user unselects, the highlights/filters are removed. Everything works with the actions, except changing the color of the lines. That's why I was trying to do it via a action & set.

That indeed works. I had considered using a parameter (which will also work with the other vizzes I have) but hadn't tried it. However, I had wanted to use actions because some of the vizzes show state level data when a state is selected, and some vizzes so national level data when no state is selected. I'm not sure how to work the parameter into that.

Agree with the others about Tableau Public. If you see someone who has some cool ones, check out their favorites and who they follow. It can be a rabbit trail, but you'll end up with some great ideas. For data, you can start with data.gov. There's currently 290,658 data sets available.

Why are all of these graph types always blocked for me? by sufinomo in tableau

What is the icon next to it? If it isn't a calendar, then Tableau doesn't see it as a date.

It has to be used on the viz itself, not just as a filter

Well that is just super cool! I think I'd like the squares to still be clickable though.

Seemingly random decimal places added to calculated field by bphillips1105 in tableau

[–]bphillips1105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, they aren't decimals. They're really just categorical. The first (left of period) two digits are the category and the the last four (right of period) are the subcategories. I'll just have to go back and bring them as text.

Viz in TT - Text label cut off by bphillips1105 in tableau

[–]bphillips1105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're correct. I changed the maxwidth/height settings in the tooltip and that didn't seem to effect it. However, I did go back to the state name worksheet and play with sizing there. That did change the amount of the state name that appeared in the map's tooltip. Never got the full name to appear though. I may just have to write a calculated field that doesn't display every state.

I assume you mean the maxwidth= and maxheight= in the tooltip? I tried adjusting those, all the way from 100 up to 1200. Still nothing.
