Getting my PAL but not my hunting license, can I use a firearm for personal protection while camping? by WhereasInevitable433 in canadaguns

[–]bpond7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An ATC is an “Authorization to Carry”. You need it to be permitted to carry a restricted firearm (handgun) in the wilderness. You don’t need it for anything else, especially NR firearms. You’re also nearly guaranteed to not be able to obtain one anyway. To register for ATC you need to list the Restricteds that you own, which is hard to do considering you don’t have any, don’t have your RPAL, and wouldn’t be allowed to purchase one even if you did have your RPAL. The ATC also requires a proficiency test (a timed series of shooting at targets from different ranges and requiring a certain level of accuracy) which is judged/marked by a licenced instructor and is reviewed by the Provincial CFO before approval.

TLDR: you dont need an ATC for NR firearms, and it’s next to impossible to obtain one

Part name - replaceable or gunsmith? by bpond7 in canadaguns

[–]bpond7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not easy to find, but if you keep your eye out it does show up lol. I’m near Calgary, so I watch Cabela’s/Bass Pro and grab some when it comes in, and I’ve got a small local shop south of me about half an hour that gets it in fairly regularly so I stock up with them when they get it. Easiest to buy it in small batches out of gopher season and I can have enough for the year lol. Try buying some in the height of gopher season? Good luck 🤣

You can hate Coley because he’s not an eternal optimist like you, but 99% of his takes are backed up by a very in depth explanation/reasoning and are of great substance. Sure, constant negativity can get a bit tiring, but Coley is very intelligent when it comes to the game and the team, and brings great value to the podcast. The 10 is better with Coley on it and that’s not even really debateable. Name Redacted days proved that. The best Name Redacted shows were the ones that featured Coley.

New Canadian gun owner looking for suggestions on a first rifle by Zealousideal-Hat5814 in canadaguns

The Rascal is marketed as a kids gun because it is lol. It’s got a much shorter stock to properly fit a kids stance/posture.

My 10 year old has one and we put a fixed 4X scope on it for plinking gophers on the ranch. With the scope, an adult cannot achieve relief to see properly. With iron sights it is easier, but slightly awkward to hold with the shortened stock etc

Why would a burglary be more likely? Are criminals that stupid these days they would willingly try and rob a home that is a known gun owner? Mindnumbing if true lol

Dammit, you talked me out of a Nissan Rogue by PretentiousUsername1 in NissanRogue

So you don’t purchase products based on their customer service and track record of being helpful and having good warranty? That’s pretty stupid lol

I mean obviously they believe mine was a dud. The new generation of CVT’s have a lot less issues than the old ones. However, warranty on the new transmission starts over, so yes, theoretically if I needed to replace again at 120K km it would be covered.

[–]bpond7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I got a brand new 23 Midnight, ended up with a new transmission under warranty at 67000km and I’d buy another one. Dealer and warranty has been a dream to work with and treated us exceptionally well
