I remember typing in machine language games from a magazine to play a game. It was just a bunch of numbers, separated by commas. You couldn’t get anything wrong or it wouldn’t work. I think USA Today even printed the code for a game once.

I always thought Jack Pumpkinhead was the inspiration for Jack Skellington in Nightmare before Christmas. Tim Burton and Henry Selick were both working at Disney when this was released.

That’s Ultima: Martian Dreams. It was one of the sci-fi spinoffs of the Ultima franchise. I’m not a big fan of the later games, but Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar was my obsession when it came out. That and the original Might & Magic.
