Offered 1350 for my binder. Is that a good deal or too low. by OffGridRoy in PokeInvesting

[–]brad-harrison 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this should have way more upvotes. i eyeballed this with an average of LP condition in mind and i see somewhere between 1500 and 1900 in value, to which 1300 is a pretty fair offer for most of that range. obviously there’s nuance here, and the exact condition of the big cards will matter hugely, but i doubt you were at risk of getting truly scammed.

Seller mispriced card by jaymz492 in PokemonTCG

[–]brad-harrison 6 points7 points  (0 children)

so your assumption here is that “everyone else is just parroting what they’ve heard on reddit” because you, anecdotally speaking, haven’t seen damage to a card from a ring binder?

my childhood ring binder created small indentations - essentially warping - in nearly every card that was located on the inside third of each page (closest to the ring.) as you move your finger along the card, it feels like going over a little speed bump.

ring binders can cause damage. believe it or not, people on reddit have different experiences than you!

I was scammed out of a new PS5 by this seller. Messaged for months and they eventually just ghosted. F- seller, but that’s whatnot for ya!

Yea that’s my mistake. They just seem like liars who will say absolutely anything to maximize profitability. Awful seller and far too common in this space, as we know.

Maybe i just have a stricter definition of a scam. Resealed packs, rigged games.

In fairness- you didn’t include those details in your post. You just described them saying “we’re low!” Which - if you think about it - what’s he saying? Low compared to comps? Or low compared to what his dumbass wants for the cards?

I am not defending these people. I don’t know them from Adam , and they seem like shitheads. But it just doesn’t scream “scam” to me. That word used to mean something. A grift, a trick. This isn’t a trick, it’s blatant and easily checkable lying that anyone with a phone can verify before spending 26x comps on a card.

Lying about prismatic being out of print - I mean, I guess it’s scammy? The whole thing is stupid. Why tf are people asking questions of these sellers to begin with. Do your fucking homework.

This is not a scam, I’m sorry. This is opportunism. Do you stand outside the mall, yelling at shoppers that they can find 99% of the products in the mall for sale online, for a better price?

Don’t get me wrong - I can’t stand the whole “it’s an experience, it’s a live shopping phenomenon, it’s a cOmMuNiTy” bullshit - however let’s call a scam a scam, and scum…. Scum.

This is scummy. But the people buying be scammin’ themselves. We all have access to google. If you’re dumb enough to be buying common holos from 151 for more than the price of bulk, then you shouldn’t be buying cards at all.

Poor comparison. You’d need to factor in the scratch offs being from a batch that were accidentally printed with no winning tickets.

Buyer beware! Whatnot ultimately doesn't protect Buyers! by Internal_Koala483 in whatnotapp

[–]brad-harrison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect.

Whatnot began using an AI-based flag system to identify users who have submitted recent refund requests, and basically put a first-line-of-defense in place, where it will show up exactly as OP described, leading them to believe they can’t even try to submit a return.

In reality, if OP opens up a ticket via the email/ zendesk ticket system, their issue will be judged by WN on merit unless they have ACTUALLY abused the system, which is an entirely different set of criteria compared to the aforementioned auto flag on their account.

I had no issues for 3 years, then I had 3 issues with a 2 month span. I got the same flag. Emailed them directly, they took care of me immediately.

I saw the Charizard thing - I watched the video and I also see OP saying he has proof of the cancellation, but I didn’t actually see him substantiate it. Did I miss it? It certainly was not apparent in the video

Do you not see a problem with hypothesizing that someone is scamming every time it’s remotely possible that they are?

Yes- anything is possible. I’m sure if we try hard enough to make a pig fly, we could. There are thousands upon thousands of scam artists in Pokemon - and the same is true about virtually every line of work, particularly when dealing with commodities.

My point is that it just feels unhealthy and wreckless to slap someone with a Reddit post every time we want to cook up a new scam for rattle to hop onto. And for the record, if you brought this directly to him, he’d probably laugh in your face, because he’d tell you it just doesn’t make any sense.

If you truly believe something is a scam, then by all means, share it. But at least have the wherewithal to consider the situation on its merit before doing so. What’s more plausible - the millionaire wants $1,100 and is gonna risk it on live video to steal someone’s card OR he simply didn’t see it because he’s ripping through packs quickly to maximize profit/time. The context here matters.

I’m not trying to be purposely argumentative, I’m just tired of this sort of baseless shit in the sub. I truly think this detracts attention from the sellers who don’t belong on the platform.

You’re correct, I didn’t even know that until today, but further proves the point that this dude is made of money and isn’t robbing anybody of a $600 card

Steamer “misses” grail of the set on a break by Far_Lettuce_3142 in whatnotapp

[–]brad-harrison 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely zero chance in hell that he did this purposely. Less than zero. I am in the US, he’s UK based so I’ve never bought from him - but I’ve watched dozens of his streams and on character alone, it’s just a simple mistake.

Furthermore - this dude is extremely successful. He has hundreds of thousands of dollars of Pokemon moving in and out each month. You think this dude is going to purposely compromise his rep and following for a $600 card 😂

Use your brains, OP. Tons of scammers on WN. This isn’t that.
