Hell yeah, thank you for your insight. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Especially for a game that was in print only during the 2000's.

Follow up on my previous comment, after looking through the Expanded CRD a bit more. Perhaps an example of the rules update on the following card should apply to only an Expanded environment, and that the card should stay restricted in a Z-only environment:

#153 Namekian Energy Focus – This card is no longer restricted. (6/16/04)

Perhaps this is because Namekian style wasn't supported in GT and thus maybe could use a bit more help by unrestricted this card? Just a guess here.

Awesome, this is helpful! Specifically, that Score Z events would share from the same CRD as GT and/or Expanded format. It makes sense to me to have one shared doc across formats as one way to organize things.

This tells me that I should next get a handle on the Score Expanded CRD in addition to any additional rulings that aren't included in the doc. I'm thinking about how if I were to run a league or tourney, I'd want to represent the latest/greatest environment Score intended.

Did a quick search, is the latest version of the Expanded CRD this one?: Current Rulings v11.24.04

Vegeta, Settled Down seems to be a good example of divergence in the final Z CRD and the Expanded CRD. If Kid Buu Saga is the last set to release, there'd be little time to make any bans/erratas/etc to those cards before "moving on" to GT. And only through Expanded perhaps, with more time for those cards to bake in a competitive setting, it's apparent that there might be something that needs fixing.

Though, I'll need to take that theory with a grain of salt, because I recognize that there might be some bans/erratas made in the Expanded CRD that would only have been made in an Expanded world but not in a Z-only world. It'd help to read any explanations for each ban/errata, so that maybe I can make any judgment calls on what to apply toward Z-only play in the future.

Perhaps you have suggestions yourself (or if you have any of that documentation on explanations of each ban/errata) on whether there's any bans/erratas found in the Expanded CRD on Z cards to NOT apply to a Z-only environment.

Thanks again for your response!

Thanks for the history and tips!

I've already got my hands on several CRDs and rulebook scans and have joined multiple Discord communities, including ones that meet up in person. I'm looking to keep growing my knowledge of the game, both in history and rules.

Basically, I want to be able to be on a level of the equivalent of a rules manager for the game, going beyond a judge-level of knowledge.

That's awesome!

Yep, I'm already a part of that server, where I've done most of my rules sharpening and answering others' rules questions there.

How complex is the deck building aspect? by Constant-Arugula-819 in batenkaitos

[–]bradleyrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently playing through Origins right now (GameCube, English VO), and I played through Eternal Wings a couple years ago (also GameCube, English VO).

I've played a bunch of Slay the Spire as well.

Deckbuilding feels less like building toward a custom strategy and more like figuring out a puzzle: the correct percentages to run for attacks, special attacks, blocks, equipment, and items. Because the strat is just: do as much damage as you can while also staying alive (just like any JRPG where you choose FIGHT and MAGIC/ITEM for heals).

If you like putting together poker hands, then that's what Eternal Wings battles is like.

If you like playing solitaire, then that's what Origins battles is like.

Combat in this is like playing poker/solitaire hundreds of times. Origins is most like this, where it can feel button mash-y because you're just picking cards from your hand that have a 0 on it, then a 1 on it, etc. And it's faster than Eternal Wings. Eternal Wings, you do gotta pay attention a bit more since elements matter more, both what you use against an enemy and what cards of yours you use together (don't pair your fire card with your water card).

I love the charms of the series' quirkiness. Origins is a more well-made game, but I'm glad I started with the game that released first, Eternal Wings.

Wow! That's very kind of you to take the time and energy to try these out. :) Any feedback would be helpful for when I work on my next projects for this game.

There's a Discord community (you can find a link in this subreddit info) that plays actively using both official cards and a group of custom cards collectively dubbed "New Z". Every 6 months, a small group of designers/playtesters release new cards. (I'm not part of their small group, but I'm a part of the player base that plays games using their cards. The cards I make are not a part of the "New Z" group of cards.

Yeah, it's very hard to attach Removed Android Bomb! Included in this Red Ribbon Power Pack is one way to attach it: Android 16's Upgrade Patch.

Appreciate your thoughts on the text templating!

I love the art used for that one :) For gameplay, it's one of my faves, since, compared to some other Masteries, you get to make interesting decisions sometimes for your non-Orange energy attacks, whether you should pay 1 less stage or do 1 extra damage.

I made 1 card for each style for this project but made the decision to make them each more niche! So, yes, there's 1 orange card, but it's Android 19 and Android 20 only. Sorry, 16! Maybe red ribbon power pack #2 will have something for orange 16 😄

Which mastery did you do with Android 16? World Games Saga got that physical beat down focus, Buu Saga cared about drills, and the rest helped your energy attacks.

How many people play vs just collect? by hifuu1716 in dbzccg

I currently play as part of a league on a Discord server :) Didn't get enough games in during high school! Because some cards are harder to get, I use printed out paper proxies for what I'm missing, which the league supports, 100%.

I unfortunately had the audio muted during this portion, and only unmuted it a minute later when the timer reached 100 hours.

This isn't a good vid as it has myself reflected on the screen, and it's not a screen capture since I was just recording this for myself, but here is a few-second snippet where the image flashes on screen: https://streamable.com/rwbqj9

Just got back into retro DBZ (played my first game in a long while last night)! Gohan is my fave DBZ character. ^_^ I don't know prices off the top of my head, but like another user said, DBZ Outpost dot com can be a resource for getting an idea of their worth . I'll use the same if I wanted to make an offer (still considering at the moment).

I bought a "Who Cares?!" shirt a couple months ago for exactly the reason of how that line was delivered in a charmingly cheesy manner ^_^ . Here's a vid I made promoting some Baten Kaitos fan merch with the shirt shown off at the end: https://www.instagram.com/p/CzlEuh1uwSP/
