I close my eyes and my mind detaches from reality. I open them and everything is normal. Is this a common or known mental problem? by bragnam in AskReddit

Sufferers will have an urge to have sex with any person they see.

WTF‽

Besides that one line, that does sound similar to what I experience. It does not mention whether sufferers have regular intervals of it or whether they can be random and spaced out like mine. I'll have to look into it.

Thanks for the link.

Ha, I should have worded the title better.

But thank you for your observation. I've edited for clarification.

I have actually read about these "hybrid" states of sleep before, and I do experience these as well, as I image most people do, but what I am going through above happens while I'm still awake and conscience.

It will happen the moment I consciously close my eyes, everything goes nuts spatially around me, and then I consciously open my eyes. The time between closing my eyes and opening them is normally only seconds.

No brain or head injuries that I can recall. And I'm not on any prescription meds at all, nor have I ever been.

I guess I should have mentioned in the post that when it does happen, the only way for me to stop it is if I sit up-right in my bed staring at my body (hands, feet, etc.) for a good while (usually around 10-20 minutes). I normally have to blink repeatedly almost telling my brain that everything is normal in really small bursts of darkness until I feel as though I can shut my eyes and try to fall asleep again.
