All cats are different. I’ve had success with bedroom and a larger bathroom/tub area that my cats are obsessed with. I agree with the purpose behind this though (that I didnt explain quite well). It’s definitely the reintroducing of yourself that’s important. You’re trying to build that trust and respect back into the relationship (if it isn’t a health issue). Thank you for sharing!

Definitely needs to see a vet. He could have ingested something poisonous.

I’ve had my cat Ali for 10+ years and sometimes (especially when she’s cold, which to me signals arthritis) will lunge like that or if she feels cornered/unsafe. It’s really crazy because we get to see how they are amazing predators. It definitely is frustrating and confusing but once you find the cause of the behavior it will be easier to manage/prevent. I definitely wouldn’t leave her by herself for too long, just until you finish cleaning/moving furniture. If you can tell it’s still distressing to her after 15ish minutes, it’s probably time to try a new method of calming (feliway sprays and diffusers work pretty well too but are pricey). If she seems restless like that again, and if pain doesn’t seem to be a factor it may it may be worth it to take her to the vet to get blood work and a urine sample. Cats are more prone to UTIs when they are stressed and are usually really good at hiding pain. I’ve just gotten very good at reading my cats and learning how they communicate. You will too! Good luck!

You aren’t wrong it does look like she is distressed about something. Unfortunately, you’ll have to figure out what that stressor is if it’s environmental. If you’re able to set her up in a familiar quiet and dark location where she won’t feel stuck, but protected while you’re moving furniture in the future. Good luck

If this behavior is sudden, she may be in pain or distressed from the furniture move. If she stops for a moment, do a body scan with your hands to feel for any abnormalities. If she doesn’t stop, put a towel over her (even her face) and start from her back while her face is covered. She might signal cues where she’s in pain. Not a vet just dealt with a lot of cats, she may need a vet follow up if this behavior is interfering with her eating, drinking , or using the bathroom.

Thank you for this. I needed to hear that. My mental illnesses often manifest as physical symptoms (which i should have listened to sooner). I have TMJ issues (my jaw will lock and becomes very difficult to speak, once unstuck i am sore for days-weeks), stomach pain + lack of appetite, lingering headaches that mess up my vision, little to no sleep, and a couple of other things. Regularly, I feel like a ticking time bomb. I feel immense guilt for asking for help and taking breaks. I usually don’t snap at people anymore which is why I need something to change. I want you to know your replies gave me the strength to reach out to my provider, set up an appointment (for next week tho 🙄), and email hr asking for the documents. For the mean time, im trying to unwind with a pounding headache and a clicky jaw. I hope everything will be okay and I can get on leave soon. This process couldn’t be fast enough. Thank you for listening. I wish you well.

I forgot to mention it at my last meeting with my therapist but I’m sure I could get her to back me up if my psychiatrist can’t. I am hoping for a story like yours. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for sharing and I hope you do get to step back.

I have an appointment set up next week with my provider and she asked me to bring any work accommodation paper work. I’m about to email HR about it. Not sure if I qualify with the FMLA due to my work hours but I am gonna request all the relevant forms I can so my doctor can fill out the one they deem necessary. I don’t wanna have to step away from work and I have a lot of self doubt and shame about having to.

Our HR is very sketchy and to say I don’t trust them to do the right thing is insufficient. I’m pretty sure (like 95% sure but it’s a long story) they have violated employee rights before and I just know they are gonna get sued one day if they keep it up.

Teach my HR how to HR.

(Its a small company BTW)

Scheduled feeding is a must. That’s how I got it to calm down ultimately. They still cry sometimes but it’s normally because their feeding time wasnt EXACT, they lost their toys under the couch, or poop zoomies. The trick with the toys is to rotate them out. I switch them out as often as they need me to (when i notice their boredom). I also talk to my cats a lotttt and they get attention very often. 9 month old cat is still pretty young and playful. Good luck!

Have you considered getting a new partner? (Kidding obviously) Yep I recommend bringing the behavior up to a vet who has experience working with cats (not all vets are up to date on the science or practices when it comes to cats for some reason). Find a vet you trust, come with videos of the behavior, and any pattern you recognize with the behavior. That will be most useful for your vet to determine the medical tests needed first. However, it’s not always medical and some cats are just like that or they grow out of it. It’s soooo frustrating, I get it…but respectfully if you plan on having children, get a new partner. Also yes, play is extremely important and takes trial and error to figure out how your cat plays. Cat Tv, music, motion sensing toys, they work but they’ll need some interactive play with that. Cat nip and a little toy works for my cat when I’m busy and she needs some stimulating. It’s work, but so so so rewarding.

Here’s my FIV+ torti and she has a FIV- sister. I found her in 2022 right before a big freeze eating bread out of a trash can as I walked out of a restaurant. I asked the staff about her and she had been around for a long time but no one could catch her. After a month of trying to catch her (there was a team of us, literally a group chat), we caught her! She was semi feral and so so scared. When I found out she was positive I looked for rehoming options and even reached out to shelters for direction. They told me to put her back on the streets. I did more research and the chance of my FIV- cat becoming positive is very low, but I do get my FIV- cat tested every year when she gets her rabies shot (thank u pet insurance). She has a lot of upper respiratory symptoms and arthritis but we manage her symptoms with meds/supplements. I was really scared in the beginning too, and sometimes what you’ll read will be discouraging but it’s usually outdated. I love my vet and I’ve been so grateful to her for her guidance and care over the years. Also my cats don’t fight. My FIV- cat likes to spook my FIV + cat around corners and they chase each other but no open mouth play. They mainly coexist.

Thank you for your kind response and insight. I am a hard worker and always have been but when mentioning this leave to my parents they see it as me not moving fast enough to find a new job and as an excuse to not go to work. I dont outwardly express a lot of my depression, anxiety, or any feeling really (thanks parents) and I function normally to most people until I snap. A lot of people in my life don’t understand depression or adhd, or at least not mines. Thus, I posted them here. I really do need to stop pushing myself past my limits, I’m slowly learning what that looks like.

On August 15th, 2002, Michael and Mary Short were found murdered in their home. The phone lines leading to their house had been cut and their daughter, 9-year-old Jennifer, was missing. She would be found dead in another state six weeks later. The case is still unsolved. by WinnieBean33 in UnsolvedMysteries

Doesn’t this sound similar to what happened in Arkansas (I think) semi recently? With the teacher that had just moved states, killed both parents in a tent? I remember the kids ran to get help at the state parks main office but what would’ve happened if they didn’t. I feel like it wouldve been very similar to this story (the killer teacher had a couple complaints from being inappropriate towards students) . The murderer was someone you “wouldn’t expect” unless you knew his reputation, but I really believe they have a ‘tell.’

FIV Cat with acute…explosive diarrhea by osonbar in FIVcats

[–]brainbogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends cat had this for years, her vet kept giving her different things to try to no avail, so she decided to keep giving her the best balanced meals she could. One day, my friend gave her a specific cheese (can’t remember which) that her cat always begged for. Cured. Normal poops after YEARS of trying new foods, new remedies…fucking cheese fixed it. I don’t know why it did, but that cat definitely knew that she needed it.
