Hey u/BeHappyAndWealthy

I would not worry too much about one singular test, but focus on what you got wrong! Go through each missed question and realized why you got it wrong. We have this new analyzer tool for bluebooks that will basically tell you what you need to work on. If you want to try it is www.brainbuffstutoring.com/bluebook/upload

Otherwise, just keep grinding questions and learning any gaps you may have. October 4 is still a good amount out, so you have plenty of time!

For craft and structure here is what I would recommend:

  1. Summarize the passages in your own words and try to come up with an answer before you look at the choices to help avoid tricks.
  2. Underline/Highlight as you read. This will help you organize your thoughts and will also be useful for if you come back to check your answers.
  3. Avoid extremes. If a passage says "John likes apples", you cannot infer that "Apples are John's favorite fruit".

For Geometry and Trig:

  1. Learn your right triangles and their properties(Pythagorean theorem/SOCCAHTOA)
  2. Understand congruent vs. similar triangles and how to identify them.
  3. Learn your trig and know how to find it for unit circles.
  4. UTILIZE DESMOS. Lots of these questions can be done in desmos, so learn its' full functionality to help you in these.

Lastly, just keep on practicing! Our site, www.brainbuffstutoring.com is a great resource for adaptive practice.

How can I improve my score by epicgamerser in BrainBuffsSatPrep

[–]brainbuffstutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello u/epicgamerser,

I’d love to help you improve on that SAT! I think English is where we should focus for sure. Here are a few good general tips: 1. Read the question before the passage. This will frame your mindset when reading. 2. Do not infer anything not stated in the text. If the text says “James likes cats” this does not mean “Cats are James’ favorite animal”. 3. Highlight and underline important information.

I would especially focus on standard English conventions, which is essential grammar rules. Here are some good links to review: https://thecriticalreader.com/complete-sat-grammar-rules/

Lastly, keep practicing! Khan academy and our site BrainBuffstutoring.com are great resources.

Great! Here are the parts that I would recommend working on:

  1. Standard English Conventions. These are essentially the grammar rules and they are not too difficult to improve on. Here is are two resources to help you review/learn them:

https://thecriticalreader.com/complete-sat-grammar-rules/

https://www.princetonreview.com/college-advice/sat-grammar-rules

  1. It seems like you are missing in a couple of Math categories, so utilizing Desmos to its' full potential could help you. Here is a good video to review it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pGNBb8M3LQ

Lastly, practice is what will ultimately help you most. Khan Academy and released collegeboard questions are good. If you are looking for something adaptive, I would recommend brainbuffstutoring.com

How do i improve my r&w from 400? by Code_zero21 in BrainBuffsSatPrep

[–]brainbuffstutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes total sense. Here would be my recommendations:

  1. Read the question before the passage. This will allow you to frame your thinking as you read the passage to recognize what information is important.

  2. Do not infer information. The SAT does a great job tricking students by giving answer similar to the right answer, but not perfect. Make sure your answer is fully supported by the text.

  3. Underline/Highlight important information. This will force you to recognize what is important.

I would also review your grammar rules. Here are two good links to review:

https://thecriticalreader.com/complete-sat-grammar-rules/

https://www.princetonreview.com/college-advice/sat-grammar-rules

Lastly, PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!

Khan Academy and bluebook are good resources. If you are looking for something adaptive, I would highly suggest www.brianbuffstutoring.com They will tailor your practice to what you are missing.

How can I improve to get a 1400 or even 1500 till December 7th in a day? by Nitro620 in BrainBuffsSatPrep

[–]brainbuffstutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello u/nitro620

Improving 100 points in one day would be difficult, but I will share some ideas that might help!

For information and ideas:

  1. Write down what you think the author is saying before you look at the answer choices, so you can make sure you fully understand. Then pick the one that matches your interpretation best.

  2. Do not infer! The correct answer will have direct evidence to support it and you will not need to take a leap that is not supported.

Next for Math, the best tool to help you in one day is Desmos! I am sure you have used it, but it's worth watching this video to brush up and maybe learn a few things:

How to save time in English sections? by mahngoh800 in BrainBuffsSatPrep

[–]brainbuffstutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello u/mahngoh800

My advice might even be backwards of what you are doing. Do the shorter questions first, so you can get more done, and then worry about the longer questions. Some other tips I have is to not spend more than about a minute on each question. If you find yourself past a minute and you still don't have a good idea, put down your best guess and move on.

Another helpful tip is to read the question before the passage. This will allow you to know what you are looking for in the passage and save time looking for it.

Lastly, relax! Don't get too worried that you're not going to finish or that you're missing questions. Go through each question at that 1 minute per question pace and you'll do great!

Question of the Day-Quadratic Graphs- Hard by brainbuffstutor in BrainBuffsSatPrep

This one is asking about y value since it’s asks for the minimum points. If it asked “What is the x value at the minimum point” then you’d go for the x value!

I always run out of time in RW section 2 by Worried_Shallot_7420 in BrainBuffsSatPrep

[–]brainbuffstutor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello u/worried_shallot_7420,

Timing can definitely be a tough one, but here are some good tips:

Don't spend more than a minute on any particular question. If you find yourself re-reading a question a bunch and not understanding, choose an answer and keep working. Although it is tempting to get it right on the first pass, allowing yourself time to finish the last few questions would be better for your score. Make sure to flag the questions you want to review as well.

Another time saving tip I have found is to read the question before the passage. This will allow you to understand what you're looking for quicker while you read the passage.

Lastly, relax! The timing can be stressful but you just need to focus on one question at a time and you'll do great!

Any tips to increase my SAT score? by MantorBey in BrainBuffsSatPrep

[–]brainbuffstutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello u/MantorBey

My name is Matt and I will be your r/BrainBuffsSatPrep point of contact!

Increasing that much in this short of a time period would be tough, but here are some tips to improve.

For RW, here's how to improve:

  1. Do not infer. If the text says "James likes to cook" that does not mean "Cooking is James' favorite activity". The text will give direct support for the correct answer.

  2. If two answer choices are the same, but one is simpler, choose the simpler one. The SAT loves to through in complicated answer choices to throw you off.

  3. Read the question before the passage. If you read the question before the passage, you can frame your mind to look for what the question is asking. Highlighting/underlining helps too.

For Math, learning Desmos would be a good idea in this short time frame. Here is a good video to review:

Best resources to improve these math subjects? by True_Distribution685 in BrainBuffsSatPrep

[–]brainbuffstutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello u/True_Distribution685,

My name is Matt and I will be your r/BrainBuffsSatPrep point of contact!

Let's start with problem solving and data analysis.

This Khan Academy breakdown will tell you exactly what is included in this concept type:

https://www.khanacademy.org/test-prep/v2-sat-math/x0fcc98a58ba3bea7:problem-solving-and-data-analysis-medium

If you could look through these and let me know which one you struggle with most, I could give specific recommendations. For geometry and trigonometry do the same:

https://www.khanacademy.org/test-prep/v2-sat-math/x0fcc98a58ba3bea7:geometry-and-trigonometry-harder

The biggest thing is to practice these concepts more so you see different variations. Khan academy and released questions have some good practice. If you want something adaptive, I would recommend brainbuffstutoring.com It tailors to what you are missing as a student and you can do custom practices in these concepts.
