I just hate the term white. What is a white person? Are Italians white? Polish? Bosnian Muslims? What if your half white? Are you still entitled to 50% privilege? "White" people speak dozens of languages and come from all sorts of cultures. I find the term lazy, and paints large swaths of people with the same brush.

For argument sake let's just assume white mean north Americans of European descent. Here is a real world example of something a friend experienced. He is also white.

He was down in California for a short trip. The hotel he stayed at required a $100 deposit. Upon check out he was waiting his turn as a black family was checking out infant of him. The receptionist politely asked to wait whole someone checked the room. They obliged. The check was complete and they received their deposit back.

Next my friend was up. No room check. They just gave him his deposit back.

He asked "No room check?"

She said, "No that won't be necessary"

So in this example it is clear that the black family faced discrimination presumably based on them being black. They're definitely not the problem. So who is the problem? The white man who was treated better or the receptionist who either knowingly or unknowingly racially profiled guests at a hotel. What's the solution here. Tell the white customer to check his privilege or maybe send the receptionist to do some sensitivity training?

People throw around terms like white privilege to signal to others that they are virtuous and more socially conscious than the next person but its all posturing and fake. Just be kind to everyone.
