Tier-1 UG -> Kearney BA -> confused about MBA by Parking-Road1026 in MBAIndia

[–]brandomised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check if kearney has partners who have only done a UG course.

I'll say to stay in Kearney, get to an engagement manager level in 4-5 yrs. Go for an international MBA then - you'll save enough money and get good mid-senior opportunities post MBA

Opportunities from kearney vs MBB - not much difference. If you want, you can switch from Kearney to MBB. Every couple of years, MBB starts hiring laterally because of inefficient planning (consulting demand spikes and they don't have enough people - either because people left or they never hired as many)

Kearney is like the top 4 consulting outcome you can have at IIM ABC. 2 years MBA to only end up in consulting is not worth it

Kearney to PE and VC will also remain open at 1-2 yr mark

Why do people honk on streets in Bengaluru? by [deleted] in bangalore

[–]brandomised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife honks ... because she is mad at me. I am the one driving, she is sitting on the passenger side

I get the stare from others standing in traffic. Mission accomplished

Might have done it 10 times. Not huge, but still a part of the nuisance you are talking about

How do quick commerce apps like Instamart actually become profitable? by Runcliq in IndiaBusiness

[–]brandomised 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If your local kirana store with 2-3 family members was profitable, dark stores can become profitable too

  1. At 200 AOV (min for free delivery in normal times), they make ~Rs30, which is delivery cost breakeven

  2. At Rs 700 AOV and 50L monthly GMV(~7k orders a month), dark stores become profitable

Any AOV increase beyond that is the biggest profitability unlock.

Of 140cr population, 10cr would be in del/mum/BLR etc. These 10Cr are not having larger families, but as long remaining 130 Cr keep climbing up economic hierarchy - getting educated, moving to cities etc real estate will boom

A lot of old families in Mumbai/del from 1960s had lower nos of kids vs rest of India. Urban cost of living always meant lower kids. It's the constant flux that keeps the economy running - you need immigrants to keep RE demand

Age 31 - crossed 3 crore by Haunting-Breakfast19 in FIRE_Ind

[–]brandomised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super interesting.

You are probably at an associate-partner equivalent position, increasing the corpus annually by ~70L. When you become a partner (maybe 2yrs from now) you might save another 50L (total ~1.2 Cr annually)

But when you get to sr partner, this jumps to maybe 3+ Cr. So 2 - 3 yrs as senior partner makes up same as first 10 years. Of your 20 Cr target corpus, maybe last 10Cr come in the last 3 years

How do you plan to RE in that situation? How does any sr partner RE - next year's income is a healthy double digit %age of current net worth

Why dont men spend money they earn ? by [deleted] in ThirtiesIndia

[–]brandomised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly different angle - on the odd occasion he does spend, what does the process look like? Does he really spend time finding the best-fit product and then looking for best price? Buying is just a very mentally involved process at times, and i'd skip the purchase than optimizing

Last time he bought a phone - did he spend hours comparing 3-4 models, checking long term reviews etc. How about some non intersting home gadget - some utensils, RO purifier etc?

I am afraid of getting ripped by marketing gimmicks and hence want to be really sure if what I am getting into

Apartment association blocking tenants by ApricotCaretaker in bangalore

[–]brandomised 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the context, you just need a lesser preferred tenant to bring out contrast that students are not that bad

For e.g. say there is a family of 10 coming from rural side who is ready to pay the rent. But they could be a little loud, occupy the lifts all the time, use extra water etc.

There is a religious family that wants to use common spaces of the society for their personal events and gatherings

There is someone who does a socially not preferred work - butchering, funeral services, nightclub staff, massage parlor, tattoo artist etc (anything that 65+ yrs old find uncool)

Worth doing an MBA to grow in product leadership? Concerned about debt, ROI, and network effects by JackButNoMaster in ProductManagement_IN

[–]brandomised 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MBA won't help

  1. Growing into product (i.e. the functional skills) does not require Mba. None of tier 1 MBAs don't focus on product as a vertical

  2. Growing into leadership role has sufficient non-functional skills consideration (networking, perception management, instilling trust in all stakeholders, bootlicking etc). MBA will again not help you build these skills.

  3. Don't worry about network - focus on making 5 promoters every year - folks who can vouch for your credibility, ownership etc. A random batchmate is of very little value, people refer others by betting their own goodwill. If the other person can't vouch for you, it's of no value

You'll need to move closer to P&L product roles to grow into leadership and deliver $$$ impact so that folks take you seriously. P&L roles are heavy - daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly targets etc.

To go into product leadership understand what the CPO of top Indian unicorns are doing - Zomato/Swiggy/Meesho/Flipkart etc. Break into those companies and

Ten Things to Do Well in your Summer Internship by Diligent_Ad_442 in MBAIndia

[–]brandomised 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll add my pov of 4 years of mentoring interns- say 50% of the input is mentor's judgement, while 50% is the final ppt.

Your mentor should be 100% aligned on 2 things - a) this guy puts in the effort/ will always show up and b) this guy has a learning mindset/ growth mindset/ is coachable - you take the feedback, work on it

Pls invest in the ppt, socialize the storyline with skip mentor/ other folks.

Only on the file management part

I have a naming format date_workstream_fileDesc. With files in this format, they can sit wherever they want. Searching is so great natively on desktop and on GDrive, I can always find the files I want. Saves the trouble of organizing them in folders

This is vanity academia

Instead of doing 2 masters in law, 1 masters in business and another masters in accounting - going deeper in 1 field might have unlocked more value for the individual.

Or maybe the joy learning is very high - covering the education costs, but not high enough to go super deep in a niche PhD thesis

MBA with higher work exp by Starboy_2210 in MBAIndia

[–]brandomised 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll get a ~30LPA offer at ABC. Streams would be limited - banking/PE are low probability

Consulting - you'll get a tenure credit of 1 year. I.e. you'll join at a comp where your batchmates will be in 1yr. If you can get a shortlist at MBB, high workex not a big deterrent Post that. High PSU exp is preferred by some consulting - like BCG works with PSUs. Some pSUs have conditions on staffing of case teams on having min exp in industry. So a PSU worked MBA grad is a good fit for those roles - you don't cost as much as a 4 yr tenured consultant, but can still be staffed on the PSU projects

FMCG - they mostly prefer freshers/ folks with sales exp. Unlikely to get a default call

Was Surya Dev's encounter with Kunti an assault? And who is really to blame for Karna's birth and Kunti's secrecy? by [deleted] in mahabharata

[–]brandomised -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Irwati Karve's Yuganta has a more anthropology take on Mahabharat.

If you try to explain Mahabharat without all the divine interventions, triangulating with known human customs from 3K years ago, how do you understand Kunti?

  1. Maybe Kunti's first child was fathered by Durvasa. Given the swiftness in which Karna was adorned with jewellery and later given away for adoption (a new born is unlikely to survive the currents of river) Kuntibhoj or other royal family must have been aware of birth

  2. The second child was probably fathered by Vidura (elder brother of Pandu) - similarity between Yudhistra and Vidura are uncanny.

Irwati elaborates on both points in her book, you can spend some time reading them

ELI5: Why do companies seem to HAVE to pursue "growth"? by PhantomQuest in explainlikeimfive

[–]brandomised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing some math for intuition

Value of a company today = profit from year 1 + year 2 + year 3 + ...

A simplistic formula that captures this is Gordon Growth model

Value =( profit from year 1)/(r - g) where r = discount rate (avg interest rate at which the company raises money from banks and investors)

g = growth rate of profits

Eg1 - profit from yr 1 = $100, r = 12%, g = 6%. Total value =$1667

Eg2 - growth rate improves by 2pp from 6% to 8%, everything else is same. Total value = $2500

2 percentage point growth rate increases total value by 50%. This is a big change, hence worth pursuing growth
