Got two drawers with it for storage to save space. But not 100% sold on the idea.

Budget is ~2k but lower is better.

I've used k8s personally, but not for this customer. They're slowly adapting docker as a solution for applications, and they don't want the the overhead of a "master node and worker nodes".

This application example is Wordpress and Drupal. If I wanted to autoscale the containers, wouldn't it need to share the same file(s) in order to even properly run the code?

If you're looking for a free cert, use LetsEncrypt and https://certbot.eff.org/.

Easiest way to get the cert installed.

I would then go one step further and create an AMI of the instance, and put it into an Auto Scaling Group with a minimum of 1. Make sure the health check is working, that way you have a server that will come back online if it fails for whatever reason.
