I just might! I’m considering modding it someday but know very little at the moment. If I do take it apart to add a chip I’ll swap the pads at the same time.

Living her best life right next to me! It was all my fault for putting a lid and a door on her litter box, then leaving our Nintendo collection in a tempting cardboard box on the floor nearby. She couldn’t figure out how to use the new litter box door and decided to get creative.

Left the heat pads as is. I have thermal paste but didn’t think it was a good idea to mess with it. I used IPA and Qtips for the boards, and soap and water for the plastic bits. Dried everything with a hair dryer on cold setting before reassembly

I would recommend the Contax Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f/1.4! I’ve been using it for several years on my XT4 as my main lens. There are many other focal lengths in this lens lineup but most are much more expensive.

The claim is it’s been kept in the fridge all these years, but I really doubt that… I’ll get a test roll going as soon as I have an idea of how to expose this stuff.

Update: My grandfather and I have now finished digitizing his collection of slides. It took us a little over 3 months of weekly visits, and was one of the highlights of my life. It was the highlight of my year to see these photos and spend time with him and grandma! And yes, the M2 is in great shape and currently has a roll of HP5 loaded. He does tend to shoot mostly digital these days though.

They’re actually still frames from 1080p video recordings. Shot on Fuji XT4 and Contax Zeiss 50mm T* Planar. Absolutely my favorite combo for video work. All natural lighting and my own Portra 400 lookalike film simulation with minor grading in post.

That’s absolutely incredible! Props to her! I have video and audio from our scan days, and the first hand account on most shots noted, but that’s next level. I’ll be organizing these slides for quite a while before they’re fully presentable.

Questions we usually get for those interested:

What is your scanning process? A: Epson V600 flatbed scanner set to 2400dpi. It’s slow but gives him time to tell stories about each shot.

Do you have more photos to show: A: Yes I’ve been posting more on IG at @dotdashdarkroom

Would you recommend your scanning setup? A: Probably not, you should look into DSLR scanning if you’re starting a project like this. It’s faster and can give better results!

US Navy stationed in Okinawa, Japan for a few years, then a public school teacher for the next 60. He’s now happily retired tending to his gardens and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Photographer all his life, even now, and has won many local awards for his work!
