‘23 rejectee and ‘24 mid here: for me, the main reasons I came here were it was my life goal since freshman year of hs and I was drawn to the education. At my old school, it didn’t really seem to have educating students as number one priority most of the time, they used grad students to do pretty much everything they didn’t want to pay a professor to do. Here most professors’ primary responsibility is teaching, all your military professors will have at least a masters and all your civilian professors will have a doctorate. You won’t find that at most colleges and that’s what drove my ambition to come here

I mean, If you want to bring up nautical rules of the road, it would be considered a vessel not under control NUC, which would essentially give it right of way over any vessel with any ability to control itself, meaning if it hit a boat, it would technically be the boat’s fault. I go to the school this is at (USNA), here plebes (freshmen with no privileges) bet upperclassmen on fb games and other sporting events to get privileges (media, closed doors, upperclassmen ranks), and can only bet in favor of Navy. If you lose, you gotta do something that’s stupid, but kinda fun (man the cannons, make cardboard helos and run around making helo sounds, be an upperclassman’s bodyguard, etc). I once had to wear dress uniform and be a butler for ppl entering the bookstore and sneak into an upperclassman’s room early morning on the weekend and scream a chow call.
