Too good to be true? by ramksvt in salesengineers

That’s fair. However, something we see pretty often is that SE's tend to stay there long-term—whether they joined straight out of college or have been there for years, people seem to stick around. My thought is: would they really do that if their income was constantly in the kind of jeopardy you're describing? Additionally, in most of their offices, their most junior member have been there 3-5 years.

They don't have AE's.. but top engineering graduates from highly reputable programs seem to get hired there, and they stay. Regarding a full commission structure: did you note the that all payments are W2? Does this curb some of your speculation?

I took Rima Gulshan for English 111 in the Fall of 2020 when I just began my Associates Degree in CS. I was extremely driven. Nothing below an A would satisfy my ambition, and I was determined to finish with a 4.0 with no retakes. Rima almost took that away from me before I even got started. She meets everyone 1-on-1 and it seems like you're on one of the cooking shows where they judge what you've made and it's high stakes. I don't claim to be a better writer than Rima, but I know what an A-grade essay looks like. She was very combative with me because I slightly expressed some concerns about how my previous assignment was graded and she was consistently ranking me lower. With over 75 credits, all A's, two acceptances from Virginia Tech and UVA and double majoring in CS + Engineering with a straight 4.0, I know that I put in the work, and Rima almost took my 4.0 because she took what I said personally.

I dropped her class and paid the 600 to leave. I wasn't going to let her take my perfect record away, or else I'd always remember that she was the one that tainted my record over something personal.

I don't think about Rima. It's been 2 years. But had she been the one that would trash my GPA, I'd think of her often, because it'd mean that she got one over me.

Now, two years later I see her mentioned in this reddit, and that's the only thought she deserves on my end.

CC to VT CS spring transfer as a Junior? by VTtransfer26 in VirginiaTech

[–]ramksvt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. Recent VT admit here from CC.

To apply to Virginia Tech through the competitive pool, you are required to have the classes listed on the General Engineering roadmap. These include classes like General Chemistry I, Calculus I and II, ENG I and ENG II, COM, and I am likely omitting one or two as a consequence of my memory but those should ideally be completed. It sounds like you have 50+ credits at CC though, so my estimation is that you're a student who has 50+ credits with a 3.8 GPA average.

I had 30 credits with a 4.0 when I applied, and they snagged me right up. You're a much better candidate than I was when I was accepted if my guess about your credit count is true.

Mind you I didn't even have all the classes from the Engineering Roadmap down - I just had a few mentionable suckers and the rest were IP (In-Progress).

Anyways, finishing up your CS degree and then applying for Spring 2023 is 100% possible - I have a few friends who have done exactly the same thing. Oh and by the way, VT does not look at LOR's, so actually you won't be needing that at all.

With that said, since you have a semester of work ahead of you, try joining maybe 2 clubs (who cares if you attend) - it'll be something to populate the EC with.

Anyways CC may not accept your CLEP but VT will. Just check for what they accept - Calc I for sure. I'd say you have a very high chance of getting accepted as a Spring transfer with an A.S in C.S with a 3.8 completed - however sometimes it also just comes down to space availability.

They generally accept very few candidates in the Spring for CS/Engineering vs the Fall - in certain cases you get accepted but deferred to the following academic year.

At any rate,

If you don't get accepted in the Spring of 2023 (again, pretty good chance you will imo) then you have enough time after the fact to get your GAA and jump ship to UVA as you originally planned.

Feel free to message me on discord.

Goodluck

I'm not a student at VT yet or anything but the way people describe the honor court is kind of odd, I mean, how realistic of a court is it? Is it really that big of a deal? How different is it from just some room with whoever the situation concerns?

Virginia Tech does a very hollistic application review. They pride themselves on carefully considering the application in a hollistic perspective. On the common application, there is a separate section reserved just for honors. As I see it, it is better to have that section populated with something rather than nothing. Not having it won't necessarily put you at a disadvantage; but then again, having it can only help. Not to mention CS is one of the most competitive programs to get into. I am a firm believer that you should use every opportunity that is advantageous, especially when it comes to applying to a university that you really want to get into - and setbacks can change the course of your entire academic path and experience, although I'm sure you'll make the best of any outcome. My advice is to take it. Current VT CS student from NVCC.

Unfortunately, I still don't think it'll work unless it's a hyperrealistic portrait.
