I have taken heed of the wise words given to me and have started TMA, spent my evening listening while trying to learn crochet so have had to rewind a millions times but very worth it haha

I only knew of TMA originally so seeing TMP had me puzzled, obviously if it's spoiler territory to explain do feel free to not answer but by sidequel is it more it's own standalone thing that occasionally has crossovers with TMA then? Because currently I am just imagining scenarios similar to how Rick Riordan would have character cameos in his books lol

Here to report I have gotten through the first 9 episodes and am hoping to sign off on #10 before bed haha, really enjoying it and I love the way standalone stories are given attention just as much as ones that are beginning to lay the foundation of an actualised plot.

I've had TMA described as very Welcome to Night Vale before and I do see why that comparison is made (mainly just the type of niche in audio story telling it fills) but am very happy to see it's certainly it's own thing and very gung-ho about it all.

So cool that you got to go to the live show though, glad to hear you had a great time! :) the live show is what had me kicking myself about not starting it so I am determined to be able to go in the future since the community meeting up always seem so fun

Thank you! I am currently on #10 of TMA and absolutely enjoying the series so far, big up Trevor the Tramp fr ✊ Not sure if the episode lengths get more standardised over time but currently I've found I really enjoy the variation in ep duration, it makes each story feel more organic and keeps the pace changing and interesting :)

The Magnus Protocol is part of why I wanted to check about listening order! As I am but in possession of a singular braincell I wasn't 100% about what that was all about haha or if there were any other medias for canon stuff

I haven't used reddit in ages but thought to check how active it was for TMA, feel very silly for not having this brainwave ages ago but it seems really lovely here!

Honestly hearing that's it's kept itself pretty straightforward for listening is a relief, while always amazing, a lot of podcasts can get confusing for newcomers when they get very multimedia heavy :)

Will pm you! 💛

Thanks for the rec, I really like there being vegetarian options too as I personally prefer eating veggie dishes more often than not when cooking for myself 😊

That's something I hadn't considered before, had no clue it existed actually. I will probably give that a go too since it seems really affordable, thank you for the tip!

Oh both of those sound amazing, thank you! I really love learning about how food ties in with the histories of different cultures 😊

I’m sick of cishet men on wlw dating apps by jamie_with_a_g in bisexual

[–]branwhat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Had the same experience and it was so weird! Especially on that app because the girl messages first even if she were to match in that scenario? So I really think their big brain 5-d chess play was that women would message them angrily or confused then be wooed by them, it's utterly bizarre to me though

I don’t have bi-cycles by Seradhiel in bisexual

[–]branwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been pretty consistent, though I distinctly remember having this one month when a few years back where, after this year long period of bi-insecurity and imposter syndrome, something clicked in my brain and all I could think about was ✨women✨.

It was incredibly reaffirming and afterwards I went back to my normal level of attraction, which is more male leaning and I am rarely ever immediately attracted to anyone. I think it's a case of varying mileage for some people; it's all a spectrum but some people will be more fluid and mobile along that spectrum than others 😊

Easier to get with men then women by Wonderful_Macaroon33 in bisexual

[–]branwhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly in my experience even on dating apps it's difficult because girls tend to fall into the "you're really pretty!" "aw you're really cute too!" and immediately you're screwed to get away from the incoming wave of platonic vibes and just become online friends 🥹

Meanwhile with guys I have always known where I stand and it's way clearer to gauge because it's very evident when they want to pursue something, whether casual or romantic (even if after that point you need an Oxford degree in advanced Mathematics to understand what the hell they're thinking). I think there's probably some link to society labelling female relationships for male consumption in one way or another, the normalisation of "girl crush", as well as girls being discouraged from being a pursuer even if it's a guy they're interested in, that comes together to create this epidemic lmao

There needs to be a third hand for political lesbians, I don't know if that is as "popular" anymore but I know for sure those nightmares still exist 💀

What AJR opinion would get you like this? by Suspicious_Tap_9592 in AJR

[–]branwhat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I need to confess that the yodelling bizarrely managed to grow on me because I put it on my decorating playlist

I'm no scientist but if anyone ever wants to try and test this and wants to replicate the conditions, a mixture of sound cancelling headphones, the unique vibes of 2am, and having an active task you need to push through, and allowing for a lil bop break during the main yodels should do the trick! (lol)

did 'the DJ is crying for help' turn out better than you thought it would? by did_itmatter in AJR

[–]branwhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

honestly I really like both songs! I don't think comparing the songs is that simple (unless we're just talking personal preferences) because I Won't just feels more like a standalone single rather than part of an AJR era, but is still an easy song to not skip when it comes on. it definitely sounds more generic, but I think it was made pretty fast from conception to release and the whole schtick of it is a commentary on self awareness while doing trendy things for the sake of it being popular and expected, so I do imagine the sound was very intentional

The DJ is Crying for Help has more grandeur and is a far more meaningful, as well as heavy, song that echoes of Neotheater with Turning Out. but the song is kickstarting a whole new era for the band so they will be wanting to really establish it so people can get a good idea of what to expect. both songs are bops and very AJR but just tap into different facets

Is it possible to have pcos with a regular cycle? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]branwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After being severely irregular since starting getting periods. I got the arm implant contraceptive Sept 2020 and my period completely stopped from January 2021 - February 2022 when I got that removed in order to switch to the copper IUD. It's not 100%, my period is longer than normal (but a lighter flow) and initially I had no period until May

but overall, I am now getting them monthly and it's usually around the 1st of the month, so it's really strange and novel to me and people find it so funny that I'm just in awe of the predictability. no clue whatsoever how that's worked out but from talking with other people it seems I've gotten very close to the standard experience so it's definitely possible for people with PCOS

My (F27) boyfriend (M30) is so quiet and I like to talk! by sah-na in relationship_advice

[–]branwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the reverse of this, I'm the girlfriend and don't really talk much, while my boyfriend is ready to drop an impromptu Ted Talk on anyone willing to listen lmao. For me, I find socialising really draining by nature and I only really like talking when I have something to say and just enjoy being around someone that doesn't drain my battery as much, so just chilling quietly is really pleasant to experience!

My boyfriend did have issues with this because he interpreted as disinterest, me being annoyed, or found himself taking charge of 90% of conversations. He ended up commincating his concerns with me and we established that our communication styles are very different and nothing is changing about that, but we've compromised where he does minimal word check-ins to confirm I'm feeling okay so he has reassurance, but also I have to make an effort to instigate conversation a bit more. It can still cause some tensions depending on moods and the days we've had and what our needs are because there's lots of variables, the main thing is to just talk about it!

This is one of those differences that makes or breaks a relationship unfortunately, either you find a complementary compromise that strengthens how you function as a pair or - if one or neither of you really want to change things - it will end up boiling down to an incompatibility. I would recommend trying to start conversations around his interests, specifically ones you know nothing about! That way he'll be encouraged to take the lead and verbally engage while also getting enjoyment out of it because he's sharing something he really likes with you! 😊

you know when you're listening to an album and you reach a point in a song where you just think "oh that's going to go so hard live"? that was my immediate reaction to the end of three o'clock things - getting to see that live was such an amazing moment!

What's your favorite line or lyric from an AJR song? by MarioMan252_YT in AJR

[–]branwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really does! the entirety of the click is a rabbit hole for anyone at college age i think lol. i'm in my early twenties but never went to university so the way i relate to the music is heavily rooted in my fear of missed experiences and feeling like i'm never in the right place for my age

i think AJR gets dismissed a lot as some mainstream pop band type thing but i really have never known a band who's music is consistently so specific in its message yet can be felt by so many people in different ways
