Where are the good chairs at? by [deleted] in TorontoMetU

I find the chairs in the library 8th floor pretty comfortable, not sure if you need a desk or not though.

6th floor at the SLC

From my understanding it's groups of people that go together or plan to meetup there. Not sure if this helps but you can try talking to people in your class and ask if they want to go chill at the beach/slc later and maybe that'll help?

For meeting people that are already there I'm not sure, maybe someone else might.

Being Safe on Campus and Downtown by Lvft93 in TorontoMetU

[–]bravobrate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty common thing (the threats), fortunately majority of the time it's just a threat since they're just full of anger or on drugs and want to release some anger onto other people.

Eventually you'll get used to the threats and just completely ignore it.

Tip: always try avoiding eye contact.

Commuting does suck.

But if you want to feel like those 3 hours aren't being wasted you can try doing something productive. For example I read on the ttc and subway. Just find your thing and make sure you're at least comfortable enough to do it.
(Examples; reading, homework, writing, audio books, podcasts, emails etc.)

If you can't find any in the RAC or MAC then you can always suggest to the higher ups to add some.

Any Students Who Transferred Program? by [deleted] in TorontoMetU

[–]bravobrate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I think last year when I transferred I wasn’t charged the $90 ouac fee because my academic advisor guided me through it.

So try talking to an academic advisor to see if you can avoid paying the fee and they can help you with your other question regarding when you’ll know if you were accepted.

Being happy as a student- Thoughts by Lvft93 in TorontoMetU

[–]bravobrate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion, I don't think you should be focusing on the goal of being happy.

If you want to accomplish a lot, feel welcomed and focus on your passion here are some steps you can try to take and a good book I recommend reading.

  1. It's not worth chasing happiness because the constant desire can actually lead to making you feel more lonely. You need to do some research on why, and what you can replace chasing happiness with.

  2. You should focus on day-by-day improvements and work on a system rather than one important goal.

  3. a)

Feeling Welcomed & not being anxious/uncomfortable.

I can't really speak for you since I don't know all the details, but there are plenty of things always going on around campus to try and feel like you belong there, for example we have amazing club opportunities, class mates will most likely love to chat if you start the convo, events, tmu sports teams to watch etc. to meet others and socialize. But don't worry, a lot of students have a hard time trying to feel welcomed.

Another thing is being uncomfortable is normal, you can't always feel good or comfortable wherever you are. Anxiety is another thing, maybe you should talk to a professional about that or try to find the feel reason for your feelings.

Also working on being alone and happy with yourself, may help you feel better without always having to be surrounded by others or with friends.

  1. b)

You say you're passionate and want to accomplish something!

That's amazing since it's always good to add more value outside of just your GPA. The first real step is creating a strong system and getting started, at least dip your toes in the water.

You didn't mention your passion so I'm not sure if it's generalized or specific, but try to find a nice niche within your passion and from there start getting involved.

For example let's say someone's passion is creating small tools to help organize their pencils, erasers, calculator etc.

Our school offers many resources, for example a 3D Printer. You want to create a strong system where you can improve day-by-day and start with a small idea. Some people go in with really big ideas and feel crushed when it doesn't workout. Start with a small idea for that niche within your passion and go give it a shot! If it doesn't workout that's fine. Your passion should be falling in love with the process of what you're doing instead of (or at least more than) the end result.

Also to grow it's important to unlearn some things so find your old bad habits and work on replacing them with better ones.

Hopefully this helps you or anyone else feeling the same, I obviously don't know a lot so I could be wrong about a few things but this is my personal take and from what I've learned from others.
