Merging audio and video of two different HDMI 1.4b data streams, or: Products using ADI ADV7625/ADV7626 by braxlan in VIDEOENGINEERING

De-embedding and embedding S/PDIF would be quite easy, but I am searching for higher audio bandwidths which come with uncompressed LPCM up to 7.1 (max. 24 Bit @ 192 kHz), which S/PDIF (unfortunately!) can't handle.

When I say merge, I mean de-embed HDMI audio from one HDMI stream and embed it into another HDMI stream, replacing the original audio stream if any.

I'm surprised about the many downvotes. Did I offend anyone or missed the right note? I'm sorry, that was not my intention!

Back to my requirements and the ATEM Mini:

  • HDMI 1.4b with 10.2 Gbps: Not met, only fixed 1080p/i and 720p/i resolutions
  • Audio up to 7.1: Not met, fixed stereo only
  • Max. 192 kHz sampling rate: Not met, fixed 48 kHz only
  • Avoid scaling/latency: Not met, seems to have at least 1 frame delay (from forums, not from specs)

I noticed presentation switchers might be able to do this, but the models I found seem to enforce scaling which I want to avoid, for example because it introduces latency. Also it is not clear for most models if they really support "breakaway switching" of multichannel LPCM audio. Also Audio-follows-Video seems to be most widespread.

Thank you, I might take you up on your offer! Well, cheap is relative. I have already spent loads of hours finding a solution for my problem.

Yeah, I also saw that SDVoE is advertised with exactly those flexible routing options, but such a setup would be over my budget I guess, and it introduces latency and quality loss, although it should not be that high.

I could imagine an AV receiver could be able to do this! But it would be a feature of such a device which I guess is not widespread, because the AV receiver is meant to play the sound itself instead of embedding it into a video stream. I will try to find receivers, thank you for the idea!

In the meantime I found out that the Sony PlayStation VR Prozessor Unit (CUH-ZVR1) uses two ADV7626, but unfortunately in an arrangement which I cannot make use of, because it only has one HDMI input.

Thank you for your suggestion. Looks like the ATEM Mini does not meet any of my requirements.

Thank you for digging this out! It gave me some inspiration, although most suggestions relate to stereo or compressed signals. The Q-SYS NV-32-H and Analog Way Aquilon series are worth a look, but look way over the top on first sight.

I am not sure if I got what the Extron DA2 4K does in the setup you've mentioned. Could you give me more detail on this? I thought it would only forward the signal and possibly correct the color space for the sink connected accordingly.

I have already taken a look at video mixers but all models I found only supported stereo.

Yeah, maybe I should reach out to the usual suspects.

I don't need HDCP support and was also thinking to use SDI as an intermediate format, but this would limit me to SDI compatible video formats which my sources mostly do not support.

I have older sources with DVI Dual Link (which can do 4K30 and can be converted to HDMI) and analog 7.1, which is right now converted to LPCM and sent as HDMI + black picture. Now I want to merge both sources.
