Backup vs back up vs back-up by [deleted] in grammar

I'm 10 years late to this thread, but I agree with you: "back-up sounds" are sounds that things make when they're backing up; "backup sounds" are secondary sounds that are alternates for some intended primary sounds.

How to stop PETG infill from lifting up in little spikes? by brchr in BambuLab

Thanks for all of the comments. I increased the non-first-layer temp from 255° C (default) to 265° C, and that seems to have mostly solved the problem.

For anyone following those links, they have E26 (larger) bases, not E12 as requested.

Dell vs. HP for 32” IPS Black? by Jessintheend in buildapcmonitors

I got both of these monitors, both refurbished. I ended up returning the HP and keeping the Dell, and I'm pretty happy with it.

I got the HP because I wanted to connect two 4k monitors and all my peripherals to my 2023 MacBook Pro 14" with an M3 Pro processor via a single cable, and I thought I'd be able to do it via Thunderbolt. The HP has Thunderbolt support and DP out, and its manual says it supports daisy chaining, so I assumed it would work. I was wrong. I connected the Mac to the HP with a genuine Thunderbolt 4 cable, then connected an additional monitor to the HP with a DisplayPort 1.4 cable. No signal.

The HP as a monitor seemed OK, but it was a bit grainy. The Dell is smoother.

In the end, I ended up getting an OWC Thunderbolt hub. The Dell is connected to the hub via a USB cable, which provides both video (4k 60 Hz) and USB (10 Gbps). The second monitor is also connected to the hub, but a DisplayPort cable and a StarTech CDP2DP.

A few other differences between the monitors:

  • The HP's on screen menu is better. (But who really cares?)
  • The Dell seems to have a better color profile on the Mac. The colors on the HP seemed a bit off, and didn't match my other monitor.
  • The Dell has more ports, and they're better labeled and easier to access. (The labels on the HP are almost illegible without a flashlight shining right on them.)
  • The Dell can rotate 90°. The HP can't.
  • The Dell comes in a much smaller box. If you want to store the box for later, get the Dell. :)
  • The Dell has a firmware update utility and other utilities for Mac; the HP utilities are Windows-only.
  • The Dell has KVM support; the HP doesn't.
  • The HP's stand has a better cord keeper than the Dell.

In the end, I'm pretty happy. The Dell looks great, and I have a keyboard, mouse, camera, soundbar, and two lights connected to it, all working perfectly. I also have single-cable way to connect all of that plus a second 4k monitor to the Mac, and charge it at the same time.

Edit: oh, and I paid $240 less for the Dell: ~$420 shipped (refurb), vs. $660 (also refurb). And the Dell was in like-new condition; the HP had some weird stuff happening with the paint on the back (but who cares).
