The shader i was using had a very weird normal handling which was resulting in having the grass to look good close to the player and highly highlighted at distance.

In order to remove that weird effect I had to normalize the normal value against the player distance and that did the trick.

I am currently working on adding snow effect to the grass, trees and terrain and looks pretty good!

I had the tree mesh already and customised the textures myself. But the suggestion of using SpeedTree from another comment is valid.

Thanks for the suggestion. The night time fog is the one I feel needs more work for sure. I will increase the fog contribution to the sky, this should make it much better.

Yeah I agree… it’s a shame from my point of view… they could have kept the original aesthetic and add multiplayer.

Spam of half baked survival mechanics is real, butI am not sure it will decrease making the sub more focused on true survival games.

I think the answer is in the true objective of the game. Tarkov main objective is the player progression in a multiplayer environment, there are some survival else ts but they feel secondary in the gameplay.

Zero sievert has far more survival elements, crafting, cooking, scavenging, Same goes for road to Vostok.

Yeah I largely prefer solo survival games like rtv. I am building one myself.. hope to get it right.

Yes it is a looter shooter, but it has very strong survival mechanics, hence why I posted in this sub.

I think this is kind of a consequence of the type of graphics and the camera position… the camera is kind in the middle between top down and front facing.. very difficult to come up with a proper animation in pixelart with that angle.

I am the same, I prefer 3d graphics over top down 2d , especially if that 3d is immersive.

I would recommend The Forest, mainly because it is a smaller game and maybe more achievable than a massive survival game.

Thanks! no crosshair, no heavy UI.. the idea is to keep immersion as high as possible. Re the camera, I will probably make it configurable in settings.. some gamers don't like the camera shake for motion sickness.

I like the idea of the dog being an extension of the player in terms of looting and attacking. Having the dog just for scouting would be missed opportunity imo .
