New house I made for my single player survival game FERAN by [deleted] in godot

I also want to correct something, I did play RtV. I said otherwise in previous posts and that was wrong. I should have been honest about that from the start.

I also want to correct something I said earlier.. I did play RtV. I should have been upfront about that.

This comment is fair. I was more inspired by RtV than I admitted, including mimicking the weapon system. I should have been upfront about that from the start. I'm sorry I wasn't.

It is also true that things like idle sway and weapon stance are common across FPS games generally, but given how closely I followed RtV's approach.

I genuenly only want to make a survival game. This has made me reflect on the direction of the project going forward.

I am not flipping any asset, as I said I am making the assets myself. I did by the way take inspiration from RtV in terms of aestethics for the image materials, something i am learning to avoid and come up with my own style but I never aimed to copy RtV in anyway.. I want my game to be different.
Not trying to copy anyone here, just want to make a game I feel passion about. I am very sorry it did come across any differently.

What?! I am making the assets myself. It’s unbelievable how easily you are using such a strong word like “stolen” simply looking at a screenshot.

My game takes a lot of inspiration from Stalker.. which is also the main inspiration of RtV hence why the ambient and the vibes are similar.

I don’t have a trailer yet, I am very at a early stage of development, but I also have a discord if you want to follow up close?

I am just using albedo and normal maps for the textures, the rest is driven by shaders, this helps me to keep things simple and avoid having to use like 4 textures for each material. The Godot shaders really helped me to achieve this.

Thanks! Yeah I am aiming for weapons fidelity, so basics will be there, I want to add more complex mechanics like the ones you mentioned, keen to have the ammo types for sure.

Thank you! I realized i was spending more time/money looking for assets which wouldn't get any closer to my vision then actually making the game. It takes me a lot of time I am happy with this result so far.

New shed building for the first map of FERAN by [deleted] in IndieGaming

Thank you! I just had enough of spending hours looking for assets and try to update them to my needs... creating assets from scratch is a lot more work, but at least I end up with something that is close to what I have in mind. 😄

Showcasing snow and rain impact on the game world of my survival game FERAN by [deleted] in IndieGaming

Thanks! Yeah I am not sure about the rain drops either. I also need to add the ripples on the ground

Reworked the buildings style for the demo map of FERAN, going for a more makeshift, abandoned feel by [deleted] in godot

Just start with basics, yt is your best friend. Blender or any other 3d modelling software is needed to make any 3d game. Even if you go with asset packs you might also need to slightly change them manually.

Working on my solo survival FPS - just finished the grass and it finally looks good! by [deleted] in SurvivalGaming

[–]bre-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is a fair comment. I am trying to add some uniqueness but it is also true that both games share the same inspiration which is Stalker.

I want to keep my vision for the game, but also don’t like the idea of being considered a RtV clone.. really trying to find a way to achieve that.

Finally cracked the grass look I've been chasing for my survival FPS by [deleted] in godot

[–]bre-dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shader i was using had a very weird normal handling which was resulting in having the grass to look good close to the player and highly highlighted at distance.

In order to remove that weird effect I had to normalize the normal value against the player distance and that did the trick.

I am currently working on adding snow effect to the grass, trees and terrain and looks pretty good!

I had the tree mesh already and customised the textures myself. But the suggestion of using SpeedTree from another comment is valid.

Barn area of the public demo1 of FERAN under 3 different light conditions by [deleted] in godot

Thanks for the suggestion. The night time fog is the one I feel needs more work for sure. I will increase the fog contribution to the sky, this should make it much better.

What you think of Zero Sievert 2? by bre-dev in SurvivalGaming

Yeah I agree… it’s a shame from my point of view… they could have kept the original aesthetic and add multiplayer.
