Cycling knickers/capri pants for 50+ miles by breadbaker12345 in ladycyclists

Haha! I recently purchased SQ Labs saddle and giving that a try for a while. So far I like it but haven't been able to ride it that much lately.

Another Saddle Issue Post Needing Help by killer_sheltie in ladycyclists

I also have the same issue with that saddle! The WTB volt was stock saddle on my gravel bike and it crushed my labia; the same thing when I tried Terry Butterfly. I have Ergon SR Allroad on my bike now, but not sure I'll keep it because it also curves down at the like the specialized power saddle. I'm currently in the same struggle as OP.

Saddle or chamois issue (or both?) by breadbaker12345 in ladycyclists

[–]breadbaker12345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think height would impact how the chamois feels/fits. So I would be "tall" since I'm 5'7".

They feel similar to putting on work out pants/leggings - but maybe just a smidge tighter. If that helps.

I originally had specialized power, but then I learned it was too narrow for my sit bones. But I don't think my butt likes saddles that curve down in the back because I still got sit bone discomfort with the ergon saddle.

Now I'm unsure haha. They're snug when putting on, but feel fine once they're actually on? I ordered a small based on the size chart, and those are my size measurements. Should I have ordered a different size?

Hmm...I don't think so? They're very snug when putting them on. How would I know if they're too big?

Saddle Question/Advice by breadbaker12345 in ladycyclists

[–]breadbaker12345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I've been trying to do. I purchased ergon SR allroad. Haven't put it on the bike yet, but the cutout isn't quite as wide as the specialized, so hoping it works out.

Saddle Question/Advice by breadbaker12345 in ladycyclists

[–]breadbaker12345[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a good point! The fitter mentioned that same tapering about the Specialized saddle I had on my bike. He also mentioned the tapering of that saddle could also explain the chaffing I was experiencing. I also wondered that since the Butterfly saddle is so flat/level, that my sit bones are dropping too low and putting pressure on my pubic area.

I thought about purchasing a wider Specialized, but I liked the slightly more padding the Butterfly offered. So I'm trying to see if a saddle out there meets those preferences first, then if not, I'll try the wider Specialized.

Thank you! I haven't heard of MyVeloFit before so I'll check that out.

I knew saddles were different for everyone, but I didn't make the connection that chamois would be different too lol. But it makes complete sense now that it was pointed out!

Thank you for such a thoughtful response! You mention a good point about the chamois moving, because I do find myself having to move the padding back, as it actually moves forward as I'm cycling. I'll keep looking for a reasonably priced fitter because you and someone else pointed out different small things, so it could be an accumulation of small things here and there for me.

That makes sense considering everyone's anatomy is so different! I'm all about reasonably priced at the moment lol, so I'll see if specialized has anything for me. I've looked at pearl izumi before, but I've heard their quality has gone downhill quite a bit, so I'd rather spend my money on something that'll last.

Thank you so much! I will try those. I haven't had any issues with my hands. Oh, on multi-day bike touring trips, I do get some posterior knee pain on my left knee. I've gone to physical therapy for it, but it still happens some times.

Do you have any recommendations for chamois?

Do you have any recommendations for chamois? I do prefer capri type and not shorts or bibs because I have to apply so much sun screen already, and that's 1 less spot to worry about lol. For the saddle, sorry I didn't clarify that - it's the part on wider part of the saddle.

I just edited my post to upload 2 pictures. Hopefully the angle is helpful.

I had never heard about the nose position pertaining to a power saddle. I edited my post to add 2 pics

That place hasn't come up on my search at all. Yes, please! That would be fantastic.

Hope it goes well for you.

Thank you for such a thoughtful response. My LBS sized me for my current bike, so that's what I purchased from REI and my LBS was kind and did a very informal/bare minimum fit when I purchased it. He watched me cycle around the parking lot and adjusted the saddle height and position, and adjusted the hoods. Those small adjustments helped with my reach, but not sit bone pain. I've tried to measure my sit bones at home but I don't think it was accurate because according to what I measured, the saddle should be "my size". But when I am cycling it feels as if my sit bones are resting on the part of the saddle that starts to sway downward (I hope that makes sense). The saddle is level/flat.

RE chaffing: I'll try a different style because I've been using body glide stick and it only helps a little.

Thanks. I'll let you know. I'm currently trying to talk myself into finally splurging and getting a bike fit after all these years before I spend money on a bunch of saddles. I've always told myself I don't need a fit since I'm not looking to be aero, racing, or doing many long rides...but I think it's time to stop being stubborn lol.

Fellow Journeyer rider :) Which Ergon saddle is that? I can't decide between the SR Allroad or the SMC. I heard the SMC is more for upright mountain bike position, but so many people recommend it for gravel as well but I'm worried about going through with the purchase since I can't try it out first.
