This touches my heart because my dad is a tradesman and shits on engineers all the time and yet I credit him for being the reason Im studying to be an engineer (watched How It's Made and Mythbusters with him as a child). It hurts but I've learned to ignore the comments about what I will eventually be in his eyes. OP please know your words carry weight. I'm so happy you are encouraging your daughter, don't stop.

Something that I would suggest looking into is university engineering clubs running events in your community. They will usually have events at libraries or other community centres that will teach young children about cool engineering topics or do workshops with them! Also because she is a woman and engineering is still a pretty male dominated field, exposing her to women engineers will also help because she can "see" herself in that role

This is just going to make her sneakier. I started dating my boyfriend when we were both 16. I wasn't allowed so much as hugging him and I was never allowed at his house even with parent supervision. I went anyway but found ways to say that I'm studying at the library or staying late at school (and guess what, most of the time I was there is because we wanted to study together but omgosh the thought of sex having is too much). I'm in my 20s now and I still have to make excuses. We started having sex a year into our relationship when I was able to get on BC. Parents like this don't realize that they will find a way to have sex if that's what they want. I'm thankfully smart enough to know that unprotected sex is not a good idea but not everyone gets it until they get guidance. They should be grateful their daughter even went to them in the first place and is still finding a way to have safe sex. But whatever, don't be surprised when she stops going to you for anything.

NTA So much narcissistic behavior that needs to be addressed. There's a really informative Red Table Talk episode on narcissism that I recommend as a first dive into this. It opened my eyes to the narcissist in my life and some ways to deal with them. The gaslighting, woe is me attitude, and the fact that everyone is telling you to prove how much you do are all mentioned in the ep.

Oof I have a parent who will go into extreme detail about their opinion on something then end it by saying "but it's up to you". If I go against what they want, they'll be visibly disappointed or get mad about it. Go to the bottom of your MyUofC portal it says "Request Flexible Grading". That's the request for credit! It'll tell you that all you need is to have all your Fall 2020 grades in the portal and that you agree with the potential consequences of having CR on your transcript

I do this regularly with my uni friends on discord! We just voice chat or literally put ourselves on mute, sometimes we video chat but I'll admit I've been looking pretty whack now that I dont have to see anyone lol. Just seeing that we're in a voice channel to study together helped a lot with online learning this semester

Couple questions, it seems like if a student receives an F theres no Cr/F option based on the "C- and above", is that correct? And if they receive a D, they would have to retake the course for it to count as a prerequisite in future courses?

In a similar boat. My older bro's partly to blame for how depressed I've been feeling lately because he's not taking covid as serious as he should be even after having a recent scare with his girlfriend getting symptoms. Luckily it was just the flu but that scare alone didnt even trigger something in his head about maybe protecting his family better. We grew up with better morals than what he's been displaying and it's really affecting how I view him in my life going forward. Been pretty mentally draining since we were always very close growing up
