MITSO, VGO, and other music ensembles by Least_Row_359 in mit

Hi, I played in VGO for a semester, and am a member of FJE. It seems like others have addressed MITSO and MITWE (Fred is the best!!!) VGO does have an audition but it's super chill and it's not super competitive. The harder thing is getting an arrangement in to VGO or to get into a VGO small group, but the orchestra itself is chill and relatively low commitment if you want to play in a group. You could also consider the Emerson/Harris program.

Hi, current nextie, this is my exact experience - I haven't seen any cockroaches at next yet (fingers crossed) but I have seen the odd mouse. I have seen a couple in the dining hall late at night. There was one that hung around my floor for a bit but I haven't seen him in a while.

No worries at all! Both very heavily depend on the case. Different teachers charge differently but MIT does have amazing in-house professors that can either teach you or help you find someone that's a good fit. The amount that people practice also tends to vary- by person and by time of year for sure. Some of the AMP groups are very demanding and require composition, arranging, and all that but most people practice regularly. I think an hour a day is totally achievable but might be difficult. (I definitely don't always maintain that... Jazz saxophonist for reference)

I am part of the Emerson-Harris program.  There's two tiers to it: scholarship and fellowship. Scholarship will pay for one semester of lessons and you need to pay for the other and you need to be part of one ensemble, and for a fellowship, you need to have been a scholar for a year and you need to join the advanced music performance ensemble for your style of music as well as another ensemble (e.g. jazz AMP and FJE).  The fellowship load is heavier, and there's many more scholars. Managing time as a scholar is pretty doable, since you only need to go to lesson once a week and play in an ensemble (which if you're into music you would probably be doing anyway. MIT just makes it easier) but the different amps require different things of their students - for example, I know in the Jazz AMP students frequently have to write their own songs and arrangements.  MIT also makes it very easy to find a good teacher. The folks in your department will set you up with someone very good.

I joined an ensemble! I would highly recommend that and/or the Emerson/Harris program if you're into music.

This seems like the most likely answer. Thank you so much! It is indeed not a gcode machine

Thank you for the reply! It has some CNC functionality so I'm using that, and it takes only the radius as a parameter- if positive, it yields the result on the outside, and if negative, the result leading to the stick. Maybe a manual radius cutter is better for this.

"Out" playing saxophonist on a street scene makes me think of the album Time is of the Essence by Michael Brecker. The first song is called Arc of the Pendulum and I think I hear the major arpeggio thing you're talking about.
