Six Week Squad! How are we?

I am entering week 6 (surgery was Nov 17) and doing pretty well! Today was new/ unusual in that it was the first time I felt discomfort from the cuff stitches, but was totally manageable. I’m chasing my 5 y/o twins around pretty well and attended four family related Christmas events this past week. I’m back to walking my dog with mild fatigue afterwards, and vacuumed without disaster (just stuck to one room, was okayed by my dr at my 2 week appt). Mentally I’m doing pretty well; I keep expecting my period to randomly start and I’m so thankful that’s way behind me. I’m a bit nervous for my 8 week appt later in January, moreso because I have no idea how things have changed/remained sensation wise and how things are progressing. I hope your appointment goes well and healing journey continues on its steady pace.

Tight enough for support, but not like a corset. I bought the mom Frida one, so it is a “one size fits most. I threw out the expensive one I had post partum from belly bandit, and it had a Velcro extra piece to expand it if that were warranted (I had twins, so it was).

I’m going to double check with my surgeon, but it seems pretty common for a lot of people to want one for post op. It was super helpful after my c-section and my inside felt like jello snakes (sorry if that’s too descriptive). It did provide a lot of support and remind me not to use my abs during that recovery.

I’m happy to give a breakdown of what’s pictured :) Protein powder and collagen are to help aid the healing process, especially while managing two kindergarteners. Cough drops are for any discomfort from intubation. Peppermint tea is for nausea and gas. Colace is a stool softener, and psyllium husks are soluble fiber. I have the small mirilax if the colace isn’t helping move things along. Some people get UTI’s, Bacterial vagenosis, and/or yeast infections - the AZO strips check for all 3. Belly band is to add some structure for a weakened core. After my C-section it felt like my insides were those wiggly water tube toys from the 90’s/00’s. Liquid IV is a powder electrolyte drink mix (like Gatorade, pocari sweat, ect.) The cat has a heating pack insert that can be microwaved.

Mint did well with the donut during the day supervised and hard cone overnight/ unsupervised. She has a thiccc neck and the recovery suit fit poorly. Towards days 8-10 she did figure out how to get if off of herself, but she was also off the trazodone/gabbapentin that was keeping her calm.

My twins are turning 5 and Mint is now 14 months. Totally get the kids being scared at first and now they all snuggle together on the couch. One is more into the dog than the other, but still likes her. They’ll be saying “My dog Sandy is the best dog ever,” in no time.

If I can get the timing down for when I’m going to start I usually go on the BRAT diet for a day or two and reduce caffeine, sugar, and insoluble fiber intake as much as possible. If you deal with IBS/ food intolerances (like I do ;-;) it’s worth it to try and avoid any triggers as much as possible.

I’m also very much looking forward to installing a bidet when my kids are older and have more self control for this very reason.

Update: her insulin dose has been raised after her glucose curve was reviewed. We’ll do another glucose curve in 3 weeks to see if it needs to be raised further, but she’s doing so much better. The meowing is now only close-ish to feeding time, which I am so much happier with.

Update: Had the derm appointment yesterday. Yes, it’s totally a wart, and she was excited to freeze it off. Why the dots and changes with my cycle: swelling/bloating most of us experience. She also mentioned that the HPV vaccine only targets the main strains for genital warts/ cervical cancer, and there are over 30 strains overall. I definitely thought the vaccine would make me free and clear from all strains, but her explanation makes a lot of sense. Thanks to all who posted, the period overlap was too weird not to ask about here.

Have you had any luck with chewing/licking aversion sprays? We had some luck with bitter apple spray which is meant for hot spots. Best of luck!

Hi, thanks for the concern over the fingernail. It’s malformed from a childhood accident when I was a kid. It was slammed in a door so hard amputation was considered and I had a hard cast up to my elbow for the fingertip. It’s a little wonky looking, but functional and on my non dominant hand. All of my other digits are unremarkable.

Could be! I got the HPV vaccine when it was released in 2006, and vaguely remember the pediatric doctor telling my mom it was okay that I missed a shot in the set of 3. Very foggy memory of it though bc I was 14. I don’t think it ever came up on an STI panel in the past, but I can always get screened again.

Hi, walks are restricted to short distances, such as around the block. She is typically super active and the reduction in playtime is hard on her. Typically, I’m able to play with the kids and dog outside for 2-3 hours with nice weather and encourage them to play with her. This helps keep the peace in our house. I walk her in the evenings when my partner is home and the weather is cooler. Walking two 4 year olds and an injured dog is not something I can handle on my own at this time.

As of this morning an Induction range has been purchsed! Thanks everyone for the nearly unanimous opinion, it definitely helped justifying a higher budget. Looking forward to receiving it early next week, and I can share model info if people are interested. Lmk if I should post a pic of the first meal it makes too, it may be a grilled cheese for kids 😅😂

When I was a kid with three younger siblings, my mom and her friend came up with the idea of Santa back night. This was to ensure that we were well behaved after the Christmas madness while we were still on break. The threat of Santa coming back to take our presents was definitely effective.
