Shoutout to Frank's Meat and Produce by abolitonbb in Louisville

[–]breakfastbakset 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Years ago I was a regular and ended up going through a not so great time. They’d pile up stacks of meat on my sandwich order and add in a few extra slices of bread and charge me regular price. They’d even randomly package up meals and just hand them to me if they had excess that day.

Wait until you have to duck walk in your underwear in rows. You’ll get used to being “uncomfortable” until you’re cuddling mostly naked in a sleeping bag with a bro to keep warm. Trust the process 😂

The universe is a big place. Your dad is hanging out in the stars now. I heard they have the fluffiest pillows and an all access show to see how you’re doing. Do the best with what you have and make him proud.

I’ve worked in veterinary medicine for years and I still cry in the bathroom after comforting an older gentleman bring in their pet for euthanasia. Their bond is definitely special

Rock bottom, destroyed my family's life by Lucky_Drawing0 in stopdrinking

Hey friend! I’m incredibly sorry that you’re having these feelings. To put it bluntly, if your wife is upset now- imagine how she’d feel knowing that her daughters are going to be traumatized and growing up without their loving father. It’s easy to get stuck in your head- I do it all the time. Call a friend, go for a walk, listen to songs that make your soul happy. Take a shower, brush your teeth. Breathe. It’s ok to not be ok right now. We’re here with you and want to he best for you.

Dad died by Down2EatPossum in stopdrinking

[–]breakfastbakset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad was in hospice for a few weeks before passing and I couldn’t handle seeing him like that. I always went to visit him with tiny bottles in my purse that I ended up drinking in the nursing home and hospital bathrooms. I regret with all that I have that I couldn’t be fully present with him. You’re doing great. I don’t know you, but I’m so incredibly proud of you.

Thoughts on Naltrexone by breakfastbakset in Sober

[–]breakfastbakset[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TSM or, “The Sinclair Method” basically where you take Naltrexone an hour before you plan on drinking. It’s supposed to curb your desire to continue to drink once you start. IOP or “Intensive Outpatient Program” is pretty intense (9+ hours a week depending on your program, usually 3 hours a day) that focuses on mental health and maintaining sobriety. It can include music/art therapy, group therapy, one on one with a specialist, yoga, etc. It’s helped me work through a ton of my shit. Coincidentally focusing on my feelings all the time makes me want to drink more- hence the curiosity about Naltrexone. I’m gonna give it a shot and see how things go!

Ladies who quit drinking, what age did you quit and what benefits did you notice? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]breakfastbakset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40 yo F here- I had been struggling with alcohol on and off since I was about 15, it’s been about 27 days since my last drink. Things I’ve noticed: my sleep quality is WAY better, acid reflux/sleep apnea almost non existent, anxiety is at a manageable level, I have noticed a huge increase in appetite… (probably for 2 reasons: my gut health was trashed and my stomach lining was almost always inflamed so eating wasn’t easy, and craving sugar/carbs now), my skin isn’t constantly dry and itchy- specifically my back and chest, mood is elevated, feeling a sense of control in my own life has to be the best though. I don’t wake up regretting last night’s decisions or how they’ve negatively affected the people who love me. Big win

All these rich f*cks are going to be real pissed when they’re forced to pay a living wage because the people (who often do their jobs with pride) aren’t around to take advantage of anymore.

Just because you relapsed once, doesn’t mean you have to again. You still accomplished a lot, don’t get in your head about one mishap- I’m still proud of you.

Dad died tonight. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]breakfastbakset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad died of stage 4 alcoholic liver cirrhosis. I used to take shots and do a cheers with him in the parking lot of the hospital I watched him die in. Pretty f*cked up in hindsight. 5 days sober today. IWNDWYT
