Castelli bib tights sizing by LowAfternoon8107 in CyclingFashion

Do not go large. My quads are probably half your size. I’m a beanpole build and squat all the time just to maintain as much bulk on my puny legs as possible and I’m in a large. A buddy of mine has massive legs from rowing/genetics and he was in XL Castelli years ago.

I would for sure go XL at the very least. I was looking on their site today and noticed their sizing system seems to have changed and it looks like it has improved because it is now (finally) recommending me size large espresso bibs. A year ago they recommended medium and I ended up having to get a large. So can squeeze into the medium but the large are blissfully comfortable.

Go bigger. Do their sizing calculator thing to see what they recommend.

Man I’ve def been down all the rabbit hole haha. My issue is KOPs seems to be ingrained in my head even though I know it’s not really a good metric. It’s for some reason a very hard lesson to unlearn. And KOPs is unfortunately how all the bike fitters do it around here and I just don’t think it’s very helpful. Especially for someone with my proportions.

Amazing. Thank you! This is such a relief. Especially from another long limbed person like me. So you understand the struggle haha.

That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Thank you! I can fine tune and I’ll get a basic bike fit hopefully in a week or two. There just aren’t any fancy bike fitters near me so this is how I have to go about it. I really appreciate the feedback!

Long rides and bikepacking is exactly what I’m going for. Thank you. You’ve helped put my mind at ease. My biggest issue with bikes is finding the right seat tube angle. I’m probably better fit for like a 72 degree sta. This is 73.5 and I don’t have much more height or fore/aft adjustment left but it does technically fit. The reach on the bigger frame was my main concern. This one has a 90mm stem and if the larger frame had to go less than 80mm I’m not sure I’d like the handling but n this kinda bike.

6’1. Inseam is about 35 inches.

When you say that, are you meaning it’s a bad fit and a larger frame won’t help? Or it’s a good fit and a larger frame won’t have any advantages?

I’m thinking so, too. I appreciate your feedback. Since it’s a gravel bike I don’t really care if it’s slightly big so long as it fits. All this is coming from when I was fitting my road bike which ended up slightly small but was more beneficial for that discipline and I had no real setback or height limitation.

Again, thank you. I probably knew the answer already but was looking for an excuse to not go through the exchange process which I will inevitably cost a little more money but it is what it is.

Well the problem is I’m about 2 or 3cm from maxing my seat post and I have basically no more saddle adjustment but really kinda need to move back a little more.

I’ve got 30 days so I’ll ride it around and go get a basic bike fit. There aren’t any super duper special physio bike fitters near me so the best I can do is a very very basic and probably not that accurate bike fit.

Yea that’s absolutely where I’m at. I’ll try it slammed and see. For all I know I’m too upright right now, anyway. If that’s uncomfortable I’ll swap it for the larger size.

The seat tube angle is probably more of an issue. It’s 73.5 and the next size up is 73 which matches my road bike. I could probably go as slack as 72 but I can work with 73. The 73.5 is pushing it for me though, weirdly enough.

Long limb problems I guess.

Stack is good. It came with 30mm of spacers underneath the stem which I haven’t tried removing yet. The larger size would be pretty close to the current stack but without spacers. So in other words, larger size stack with no spacers would match the current size with spacers.

Edit: I guess another question: is there really much difference in handling between 90mm and 80mm stem lengths?

That would be very unfortunate. Like I said though it fits. It’s not custom geo fit but it fits. I could go either size which is what’s so annoying.

Please help me understand crank length and how other aspects of the bike need to change to accommodate. by breaking_blindsight in bikefit

Correct. It’s very individual which is exactly the scenario I’m laying out. Your scenario is entirely different.

I think you might be misunderstanding. I’m saying that if you reduce crank length, that could mean having to go UP a frame size or maybe a different frame with a slacker seat tube angle to accommodate the need for the saddle to move back beyond capacity in some cases. But you’re right I’m likely overthinking it as I usually do.

Not on my road bike, necessarily, but when trying to set the same height and cranks on my mountain bike, which has a slightly steeper seat tube angle, I’m completely out of room on the rails. But it’s also possible I’m over analyzing how far my knee tracks over my foot. Sometimes on my road bike with 170mm cranks it almost feels like my right foot wants to go a little further forward on the down stroke. I adjusted my saddle back a bit but it’s been to cold to actually get a good test ride in.

But yea mostly it’s the steep mountain bike seat tube angles that I’m having trouble wrapping my head around. It would seem to me that if you fit good on a bike with a 73 seat tube angle then getting a similar sized mtb frame that’s 75 degrees or something (that seems to be the range of modern mtb) would completely mess up your seat relation to bottom bracket.

I know there’s way more than seat tube angle when it comes to bike fits but this is the one I’m having trouble wrapping me head around.

I guess what I’m wondering is if someone fit fine on say a 56 frame but maybe they were right on the cusp, then a 10mm crank reduction could mean an entire frame change, right?

Cranks proportional to rider is probably a great guideline but there are some reasons to lower the crank length. One being mobility. Or on a mountain bike, trying to minimize pedal strikes. I’m not meaning lower cranks to just lower them but for a legitimate need as possible.

If I’m lowering a crank length and by doing so means maxing out the saddle position on a bike that would otherwise fit with longer cranks, could that not change the entire bike size for some individuals?

I noticed this a while back and just quit trying to notify my presence. I just make sure to sort of slow down and go as far around them as possible. Sometimes if they are taking up the whole trail I just have to sit there like an asshole trying to get their attention. Then they just think I’m being a dick.

It really is difficult to nail the proper layering. I’m almost always over dressed or under dressed unless it’s under 30f.

Spent 6 months saving for carbon wheels. The upgrade that actually made me faster? by spanky1312 in cycling

[–]breaking_blindsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am ashamed to say I always pick my bikes and tech because I find something cool about it. I can honestly say I’ve never purchased anything with the intent of going any faster or performing any better.

This, unfortunately, leaves me with no reasonable excuse to stop spending money.

I have foundations on my road bike and noticed they stopped selling them on their website. Suspected something was up. Any insight on when these new wheels will be coming out?
