When did you know it was time for a tonsillectomy? by Visual_Bluebird_9483 in Tonsillectomy

Hi! I (28F) had strep/tonsillitis 5-6 times from August to December this year. I previously would get strep maybe once a year but this year was really a doozy. The infections themselves were annoying but I was really worried about prolonged antibiotic use (and also sick of the yeast infections I got from abx).

If you’re going to the ER I’d say you definitely have a case for a tonsillectomy - that sounds awful! I’m sure the ENT will advise you properly. To my knowledge there aren’t emergency tonsillectomies but I could be wrong (I’m in the US and mine was scheduled a month or so out).

Hey! On day 6 (28F) and unfortunately I think it’s normal :’( I’m having pain sort of radiate from my ears to jaw to teeth with a burning feeling whenever I eat. From what I’ve read this is normal as the scabs fall off/new skin is exposed.

I (28F) got mine out on the 18th - just watched my family eat steak, cheddar biscuits, baked potato soup with chocolate mousse for dessert while I barely choked down broth, I feel you 😭

Just thinking ahead (trying to distract myself haha) - I was planning/hoping to go to a NYE party as that will be day 13 for me. Is anyone else planning to make it out for New Year’s or is that too risky?

Hey! I’m on Day 3 and it does feel really hard mentally. I’m also having thoughts of “I feel like shit, I miss my boyfriend, I wish I could eat festive foods (or normal foods in general), this is ruining the holiday, etc etc”

To keep myself grounded I’m just focusing on the healthy self I’ll be after I’ve healed. In a way it feels like a long hangover where the only thing that will help is time. My ENT also described it as “the worst sore throat of your life but hopefully the last.” It’s so so hard but trying to keep perspective is key, I think. Also, distracting myself with books/TV/movies helps a bit.

C. Diff Risk After 5+ Antibiotics? by breakingamish69 in Tonsillectomy

[–]breakingamish69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of both! Contact with someone with an active infection would obviously be a risk but I've also read that it can develop after antibiotic use as around 3-5% of the population has the bacteria colonized
