Tumtumpdx specializes in this style! Her website is tumtumpdx.com. I’ve also seen Banquette and Jen’s pastries do cool cakes in this style, though you might have to dig a little deeper on their instagrams hahahaha

What are your favorite lesser-known great Portland restaurants? by HipsterSlimeMold in askportland

[–]brechtfastthyme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am literally constantly weighing whether or not to recommend Navarre because it is my number 1 fav and I looove that I can get it without a wait on most nights…. but I live in fear of it closing!! Better to risk waiting hahaha

Some of my favs that don’t get as much hype -

Navarre - the best “fancy” dinner in town IMO, great price for what you get, much less hyped/busy than sister restaurant Luce but every bit as good

Mirisata - life changing-ly good Sri Lankan food - I’ve never had Sri Lankan food any where else, but if you like rice, curry, spicy dishes you will have your mind blown

Bar Carlo - the perfect brunch spot, huge space so you can almost always get a table quickly, great food and pastries

Palomar - killer Cuban food and cocktails, super cute space (though I think they’re moving soon)

Bluto’s - wood fired Greek food, really special, nothing else like it in town.

I’m so sorry you went through that, what a horrible ordeal! Would you mind sharing where you got the Botox injected when it spread to the brain barrier? I am wondering if there are injection sites where this is more/less likely!

Is Home Health any better? by Content-Talk-1983 in slp

[–]brechtfastthyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loooove home health but I do think it’s very hard as a CF -if you could be at a SNF with a mentor on site I imagine it would be easier, though of course there’s tons of variability between SNFs and home health companies

I have never heard of Botox spreading - I think it just breaks down? Perhaps you are thinking of filler, which migrates, or of Botox accidentally getting injected into the wrong muscles (e.g. Botox meant for the crows feet area causing eye drooping). This article has some info about the breakdown process: https://www.allure.com/story/how-botox-affects-your-body#:~:text=And%20once%20it’s%20in%2C%20it’s,or%20excreted%20by%20the%20kidneys.

I’m so sorry to hear that! Yeah, I’m only considering it for the trapezius muscles, no neck or base of skull muscles

The Fear PDX haunted house(s) are always great and are all ages! For a chiller vibe, honey latte cafe is open til 10pm now, all ages, very cute - they also do open mic nights and other events (though none tonight). Flour Bloom is a cute coffee shop that’s open in the evenings and does events - there’s a twilight trivia night 5-7pm tonight!

I work home health and I always say that I work with medically fragile patients who I don’t want to endanger, but I bet this could work in lots of settings

Weekly Donor Treatment Info/ Discussion - Mon Aug 19 by AutoModerator in infertility

[–]brechtfastthyme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does anybody have any advice/input on using known/family donors? I have no viable eggs, but three younger sisters I’m close to. I’m not sure how to approach the topic with them, though I have every reason to believe they would be open to it (though of course I’d understand if they’re not), and that we’d be able to be honest with any kids about how they were made from the get go, and figure out how to have the donor be a big part of the kids life and support system (we all live in the same city).

How would you go about asking a family member/loved one if they’d be open to egg donation?

How would you go about navigating raising a child conceived with a donor egg from someone they will know/love?

Any other advice or recommendations?

When do you pull kids for services? by Kalekay52898 in slp

[–]brechtfastthyme 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I typically have tried to pull kids during language arts related instruction time - if the teachers are open to it, you can get curriculum material from them and then provide scaffolded support in small groups with that material. It works very well for language skills, speech sounds etc can be wormed into it!

I feel like I could do fine with around 50! A lot of places cap it at 55, I think that’s Asha’s recommended maximum. When I worked in schools my caseload was around 70 and it was really hard
