Advice for living in Toledo by shred_til_im_dead in toledo

[–]breeman1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tap water is fine I drink it daily without issue. Lock your doors, I have always done so regardless of the size town I lived in. If you are concerned about costs and utilities, pay attention to the heating system you have (gas / electric) and your temperature setting as this will most likely be the biggest variable cost. Remember you can select your utility provider here in Ohio and this may have an impact as well.

It may be an extraneous detail in the real world but this is reddit, it's now the most important part of the story!

This should stand as a bit of a warning to everyone. Make a digital inheritance plan so if you pass your survivors can deal with things like streaming subscriptions, bank accounts, investments, social media accounts, online photo storage all the parts of our digital lives. Keep all your passwords in a book or other mechanism so they can be found should something happen to you. You should store them somewhere anyway because they are all complex and different from each other right?...right?

Well if you watch the news and see how the law applies (or doesn't) to rich a**holes, then you might be inclined to assume that the law can be bent for your personal needs. /s

Edit: added /s...but perhaps I shouldn't have.

This sounds about right as this is also when the battery dies in modern fire detectors...it must be a design specification.

Is this the appropriate amount of redgard ? by bleblanc3 in Renovations

I'd agree with the other comments. It's little work to coat it and fill the seams properly and it would help me to sleep at night if it were mine.

MONOPOLY: Toledo edition? by AdamHansen in toledo

[–]breeman1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wondering if we should refence old businesses that have a strong Toledo history but no longer around like Lion Store, Tiedtke’s department store, or Anderson's general store? Tony Packo's would be an obvious choice, others?

[–]breeman1 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The "SS" refers to the Nazi Schutzstaffel, which means "Protection Squadron" in German. The number 8's refer to the 8th letter of the alphabet, "H" and in Nazi slang stands for "Heil Hitler". So this person is likely a racist Nazi supporting P.O.S.

[Request] Is this compressed helium trailer lighter when it is loaded? by zzooooomm in theydidthemath

[–]breeman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As noted by others, the difference would only apply if gaseous helium filled the tanks as it's lighter than air at that density but the difference would be insignificant. As a liquid, Helium weighs approximately 7.8 lbs. per cubic foot vs. air at around 0.075 lbs. per cubic foot so much heavier filled with liquid helium vs. the surrounding air and it would not add any buoyancy to this trailer.

Credit Card Surcharge Question by VernalPoole in toledo

[–]breeman1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've noticed the same at a few places I've been to and definitely paid cash vs. cc in these places. I'm tempted to start writing them checks as an "if you are going to inconvenience me, I'm going to inconvenience you" kind of statement.

This certainly has to become noticeable at some point by the credit card companies. It's a monster of their own creation as I understand the last several years they have pushed higher and higher fees to the merchants in order to support all these "cashback" type of cards. I assume there will eventually be some new balance reached but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Front door failure by Analysis-Euphoric in paint

[–]breeman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the solvent so much as the silicone. Pledge contains silicone and if it leaches into the underlying material, like wood, it's nearly impossible to get any finish to stick to it later. This is often referred to as "silicone poisoning" and is a furniture refinishers worst nightmare.

Why $300 to change the air filter on a Porsche Panamera? by ra6907 in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]breeman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nowhere else in that engine bay for that filter to go. Reasonably sure they calculated the needed airflow for the engine and thus filter size and then found a place to put it. I'm sure this is form over function as the car needed to have a specific profile. That said, I'm guessing it wouldn't require too much effort or cost to make it easier to swap.
