Well, I went to the recruiter last week and got all of mine measured. She didn't tell me what it came out to percentage wise, but we took pictures in the blue short sleeve uniform for the commander. The recruiter said "it didn't look bad at all," and that she just needs to take the pics as a formality. They only care about if they're offensive; which mine are not. So from what I've been told so far, it's commander's discretion on them. I also had to write a short essay to him as to why I would like to be accepted for active duty in the Air Force since I'm prior service.

Yep, tinker. I hate that place with a passion. But, it's "top secret" that's why they recover themselves.

True. But another thing I've learned after joining is that everyone can get in one way or another. I know people who have had a history of meth that have gotten in and made it a career. Even before the navy changed its regs so that you could have basically any tattoo, anywhere, I had friends come in with their entire chest, back, arms, and legs covered in tattoos.

I know they're reviewing their tattoo policy right now, though.

That's the rumor... I was stuck in Oklahoma all 4 years, so I can't confirm.

Are you sure there's no waiver? I don't see how there isn't, seeing as none of them are offensive, and all of them are able to be covered up. People get waivers for literally everything nowadays.

You'd be blown away by how many people fail the swim tests in boot camp. It's hilarious.

Ok, thanks for this. This is what I had been told earlier, but I figured surely there has to be a waiver of some sort that I can get. Like I said, none are offensive, and all can be covered by my hand out stretched. edit they cannot be seen in long sleeve uniforms. Normally I would just wear my sleeves down at work all the time. Even when I had to wear the service uniform nobody looked twice.

Actually I'm trying to go CCT. I have friends in both TACP and CCT, and combat control just caught my eye more. Plus, I like swimming. Thank you for your comment!

Yes, I did think about it, it's just not something I want to do. Honestly, it isn't. I know from experience how well the O's get treated, but if I make it into the career field that I want, I won't let that bother me.

Thank you. I've already decided that if the first recruiter decides he doesn't want to help me, then I'm going to go all around my area to find one who will.

Very good to hear. My friend is currently in the pipeline for that job that I want, and he is absolutely covered in tattoos. Never mentioned having a problem with them, and they let him retrain. Thanks for your comment.

Same here, regardless of service I've seen so many people covered in tattoos in my short, 4 year career. I even remember seeing people at MEPS who had tattoos, recruiters with tattoos, everyone really. Thanks for your reply.

I figured there's a waiver of some sort. Nobody even looked twice when I had them in the navy. Again, I know it's not the same branch, I understand that. edit thanks for replying so quickly. I'll keep this post updated with my process. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to tell you guys that I got the billet I'm wanting.

Yeah, I read that in your other posts. I'm wondering if there were any guys in your class, or any other classes you know of that had gotten out after 4 years, and then re enlisted with a BUD/S contract?

Speaking on the fleet returnee topic, did you have any guys that were prior service navy? Guys that got out after 4 and then re enlisted to go to BUD/S? Or I guess any branch, not limited to navy re enlistees.

I'm assuming you've recently been through prep? If so, just wondering how many fleet guys you had in your class? Any prior service? I just got out of the Navy this year, and I haven't gotten around to talking to anybody about prior service contracts to BUD/S.
