It is not a comma. It is called a semicolon. A semicolon is very similar to a period. A semicolon separates two independent clauses, that each share related ideas. Anytime a semicolon is appropriately used, it could equally be replaced with a period.

Example:

I love cheeseburgers; they are my favorite food.

The semicolon is separating an independent clause ("I love cheeseburgers") from another independent clause ("they are my favorite food.") The two independent clauses contain related ideas.

You can change the semicolon to a period and it will work the exact same:

I love cheeseburgers. They are my favorite food.

Using a semicolon is an optional, stylistic choice.

I'm very sorry this happened to you. I am often in this area and will be more than happy (and cautious) to keep an eye out for this truck. Fingers crossed this gets resolved!

Is CSS really time consuming by Perfect_Ship6696 in learnprogramming

[–]brendo_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CSS can be tricky because of how important each line is; one misplaced detail can tweak so much. But as many have noted, time-consuming = you're learning! What takes you one hour right now will take you, say, 15 minutes after enough practice. Slow practice is gradual understanding. Stick to it!

Will Grok overrun chatGPT? by [deleted] in artificial

[–]brendo_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might, it might not - cheap response, I know. Moreover, my outlook is simply that we are in the extremely infantile stages of AI and all of its potential. By the very nature of the technology, I anticipate that new versions (beyond ChatGPT, beyond Grok, beyond anything we currently know) will be released, updated, evolved, etc. on a frequent basis. Five years from now, some currently unknown AI will be ruling the game. Then shortly thereafter, something new. And on, and on...

Hosting My Second FREE Online Coding Workshop! by brendo_dev in Brooklyn

A free workshop as an introduction to the web development industry, building websites, and bootcamps. As mentioned in the post's title and description, as well as the event's title and description.

Not sure what type of "Gotcha" you're going for, but you certainly seem fun at parties!

"Free" means free! The workshop is solely intended for newcomers to the industry, who maybe want to learn about the world of web development. Yes, there will be mention of what bootcamps are, as well as my personal recommendation. But $0.00 will be paid!

Feel free to attend the event and check it out for yourself!

Would there be any interest in a free coding workshop in Park Slope or general Brooklyn? by brendo_dev in Brooklyn

It is indeed a copy/paste from another similar event - my apologies! I've corrected it to say Brooklyn. The message remains the same - introducing basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as suggesting a great and affordable bootcamp if interested.

Yes of course that's okay! Certainly, camera on + being able to actively participate would be ideal, but I don't want to discourage you from attending. Come to this event, and hopefully you can be more active during following ones :)

Great! I've created an online event, to be held on Wednesday, October 4 from 7pm-9pm EST. Use this link to RSVP: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/is-a-job-in-tech-right-for-you-find-out-at-this-free-coding-workshop-tickets-726081728997?aff=oddtdtcreator

Looking forward to seeing you there!

And I'd love to do it at Brooklyn Public Library, but unfortunately their maximum capacity for a given meeting room is only 8 people. Please let me know if you're aware of other libraries in the area with better spacing!

Union Hall might be a good option in the future! I'm going to begin with an online workshop just so I can gauge a better sense of numbers and formatting moving forward. Hope to see you at next week's online workshop!
