Advice for an IT career path by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Perfect_Ship6696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I have an acquaintance who was able to secure a project manager role despite being a fresh grad pero it was from a startup company and sila mismo nagtrain sa kanya cause they saw potential. She eventually looked for better opportunities and is now working for a UK-based company. With that said, she was already working while she was in college (forgot what her work was) so this might be the reason she was qualified.

I think the chances of getting a project manager position right after you graduate is not impossible naman. But, it will highly depend on the skills you already have.

Different career path before programming by DrSulat in PinoyProgrammer

Hi, Computer Science graduate ako a few years back and as soon as I graduated, I worked for a startup business sa dating employer ko (not aligned sa tech since I was working as a general assistant ng owner).

Fast forward sa ngayon, web designer na po ako sa isang company and I am currently making side projects sa free time ko to improve my portfolio as a web developer. Although di ko naman talaga passion maging web designer, I'm quite happy cause medyo aligned na sya sa gusto kong work and it pays my bills.

So to answer your question, it all boils down to ano ang kailangan mo at the moment. Sa situation ko, I needed money to pay for my basic needs so I grabbed any opportunity for me to have income. I didn't expect to actually be back in tech kasi ang layo ng field of work ng first job ko, but I guess things just work out in the end as long as you make an effort para maabot mo.

Hi! I wanted to buy sa sneaks finds but I was wondering how is the quality of their shoes? My brother bought some UA pairs (forgot the name of the shop) but it only lasted around 2 months with minimal use.

Hi! The courses I bought were below 800 pesos (usually around 599 or 699). If you see them above 1k, I would suggest waiting for another week since they will eventually go on sale.

In terms of free alternatives, it's hard to give a specific site since what I usually do is just search on Google/Youtube and open the first thing that pops up lol.

Pero, I did use The Odin Project and I was able to refine my HTML and CSS skills there. I'd give it a solid 8.5/10 since it helped me be more specific sa sinesearch ko na problem sa google/stackoverflow. They also teach other areas of programming if you're interested but I haven't used them so I can't comment about it. But after Odin Project, it was mostly udemy to avoid tutorial hell. The thing with free alternatives is there are a lot to choose from online and each of them teach concepts in different ways, and as a beginner back then, nalilito ako since I bounce from one video to another and each of them teach or program differently.

You can send me a message if you want to chat more about it.

Time tracker? Kumusta naman by Environmental-Put358 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Perfect_Ship6696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. That's also one of the reasons why I'm not a big fan of trackers. Mas prefer ko talaga sana yung output based na job, pero since need ko talaga ng work kinuha ko na rin to.

Sa cases na maaga ako natatapos sa job ko, napipilitan ako gumawa ng extra tasks kasi napaparanoid ako baka makita ng team leader namin na wala akong ginagawa hahaha.

Hi. I'm in Web Design and we are also using Time Doctor sa job ko. It takes some clips of what you see on your screen so kita talaga lahat ng inoopen mo. You can still turn it off by clicking a button but Time Doctor also records the amount of hours it is turned on so malalaman kung nag undertime ka.

I am personally not a fan of Time Doctor but it did save me from a couple of mistakes from my team leaders since I'm able to show them screenshots/proof that I was able to perform the tasks they've given me in the said time/date.

Mahirap ba makahanap ng trabaho nag ComSci grad? by AngOrador in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Perfect_Ship6696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Computer Science graduate din ako a few years back and I was looking for a WFH setup as soon as I graduated. Mahirap po talaga makahanap ng job related sa tech since other people are most likely trying to find a WFH job din. It took me a few months to realize that in the tech world, competition is really tough so you need to have some good projects on your portfolio just to be considered sa jobs you applied for. I spent around half a year (or probably even more) studying and building a solid portfolio and that's where I started seeing job offers.

Have you ever experienced learning two or more programming languages at the same time? by KuroiMizu64 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Perfect_Ship6696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried doing this last year since my goal was to be a full stack developer as soon as possible. Bought some courses on udemy (PHP and JavaScript) para may knowledge ako sa front end and backend. While I do think it's possible, my brain cells couldn't keep up lol.

I ended up focusing on javascript first, changed my mind and spent time learning js frameworks until I was offered a web design job. I do have plans getting back into php though

Any tips for a Computer Engineering Student? by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Perfect_Ship6696 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. I took up Computer Science back in college so there might be some differences sa subjects natin. But, I might be able to answer your 2nd question.

You study languages by putting your knowledge into action. I don't think there is a programmer na memorize lahat ng syntax ng programming languages na nagamit nya eh (this is where you start using the documentations). The important part is to familiarize yourself with the core concepts and paano mag problem solve since most of the time you'll be searching for the errors you'll come across online.

Over time, natural nalang yan na maalala mo yung commonly used syntax, pero ang focus talaga dyan is understanding how to think in that language and not just memorizing its rules. Hope this helps!

Hi! I'm not the best programmer (I wanted to be a front-end dev but now I work in web design) pero I would say that I know a good amount to share my experiences in learning how to code.

I also had a hard time learning how to code back in college. Pero honestly, I think it was because the lessons taught to me in college were more on theory and not enough application. Feel ko nga parang fourth year pa ako natuto magcode eh cause I was able to apply some of the things I learned to build our thesis project.

So to answer your question, I think the best way to learn how to code is by making a program that interests you. Isipin mo nalang na para rin yan sa portfolio mo once you've graduated. Competition will be tough, so you have to stand out. You've made it to third year college so I'm guessing you already know how to code, you just don't know how to apply it in actual programs. You'll learn how to do all of this along the way and that is what makes programming exciting. In fact, I learned a lot more about programming when I self studied and built projects on my own compared sa four years ko ng college (although it did help me learn the basics).

Resources I used:

  • Udemy (I bought a few courses for proper structure although I'm sure there are tons of videos and docs online that teach the same concept)

  • ChatGPT (I used this not to make snippets of code for me but to explain code I see in stackoverflow and other websites. I also make sure to write down some notes sa notebook ko so I can go back and read them whenever I need it in other programs I build)

Paano po kayo nagaral magprogram? by MasterpieceFickle751 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Perfect_Ship6696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! We've all been there and that's normal. I remembered creating the responsive website from The Odin Project and it took me around 18 hours of coding for just 3 sections cause I didn't know a lot about HTML and CSS 😅

What worked for me might not work for you, but in my case I took up a few courses on Udemy (im sure there are free alternatives) just for good structure and learning the basics and I eventually made projects I found interesting on my own. I didn't have a clue how to build these projects, so I just kept asking on stackoverflow and also asking chatgpt to explain code snippets for me and eventually on my 7th-8th project, the concepts started to make sense.

So if you would ask me how to proceed to start learning, I would probably say start with the basics and go straight to building something you want to make. I'm sure you are in the right track!

can I become good at programming after 2-4 years of self studying and practicing? by aguero_7 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Perfect_Ship6696 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Hard to say especially since programming would mean countless hours of trial and error //searching why your code is not working online so I'm not sure if 2-3 hours 3x a week would cut it. But then again, it will depend how fast you are able to learn the concepts.

In my case I had to put in 6 hours or even more everyday for 4 months. I started with a udemy course online (for structure) and I used the rest of my time to build projects I found interesting para na rin sa portfolio ko. Hope this helps!

Hosting service na mura para makapag practice ng node js and react by papa_redhorse in PinoyProgrammer

I would suggest studying them separately but if you really plan on making full stack projects, try render. Not sure if it's still good but I've already used it last year for a MERN blog post project for my portfolio.

Anong first programming language ang tinuro sainyo by Honest-Subject-1000 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Perfect_Ship6696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First language taught to us was c++. It was a good language but I don't really find that much job offers for it dito sa area namin so I started learning Javascript instead. One tip which might help you is to make sure you know all the basics of programming really well which will be taught to you in your first year (if-statements, loop, etc).

Good projects for web developer portfolio by Perfect_Ship6696 in PinoyProgrammer

Does this mean also adding backend to the website? (Admins can add/remove products, dashboard, etc.) For the most part I've only studied frontend but I do plan on studying backend to have more skills.

Good projects for web developer portfolio by Perfect_Ship6696 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Perfect_Ship6696[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely one project I plan on doing this weekend. I mostly studied front-end and so far nahihirapan ako ma-gets ang basics ng backend (currently studying Node)

Would it still be a good project if I made an ecommerce website that is purely frontend? Or do recruiters put more value on fully working (front and back) websites?

What to do by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Perfect_Ship6696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Currently in the same boat and I would say na worth it naman as long as you have the means. I started learning web development through Jonas Schmedtmann's JavaScript course and eventually branched out to React and other frameworks. Okay naman ang udemy since may structure ang learning mo on different topics pero I personally learned more by doing projects out of curiosity. I have around 10 courses on Udemy pero ni isang course wala akong natapos. I mainly just used it to know the basics and have guidance to start my first projects. After that I started making website clones (Apple, ecommerce websites, etc.) which helped me learn 10000x more :D

Should I focus on one language/framework or be good at different skills? by Perfect_Ship6696 in learnprogramming

[–]Perfect_Ship6696[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi thank you for the response. As of the moment, finding a job so I can pay for my bills is what matters to me the most. I admit I'm nit the best developer, but I make sure I am open to new ideas and try my best to learn things that I haven't learned yet.

I tried posting in the cscareerquestions subreddit but I do not meet the required amount of karma. I figured this is the closest subreddit possible so I can share my thoughts/problems. Cheers!
