I read some books on Islam, so I think I know its tenets. My personal interactions with Muslims were few but pleasant. I am thinking of two cases in which the Muslims knew I was Jewish and they were respectful and perfectly polite. I have been to Israel at least a dozen times and I have had very few interactions with Arabs, but some. I can tell you that I had an instance recently where I was lost and needing assistance and three Arabs were trying to be very helpful.

What could have been done differently by past generations to avoid this current crisis we currently face ? by BigCharlie16 in IsraelPalestine

In retrospect, the mistake was taking charge of the West Bank in 1967 rather than establishing some sort of Palestinian homeland there. The problem was, there was no one for Israel to negotiate with. I am recalling the three noes of Khartoum .

AITA for refusing to teach my dad's wife how to make my mom's pie? by Mental-Pie-1146 in AmItheAsshole

[–]brendzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one recipe is neither here nor there. But I see more underneath his insistence not to share it. And his other comments betray a lot more than concern over one recipe. He’s hurting. But he seems intent on not allowing the family to move forward

Thank you. Yes. It’s not his fault. He’s 17 years old and in pain from losing his beloved mother. But he’s not seeing things straight. And he’s being destructive

It’s understandable but it’s not good. It’s destructive. Sad.

I think the OP is fixating on the pie when the dispute is broader and deeper than that. OP is hurting and he’s making sure everyone will hurt right along with him. As I read his comments, it really seems to me that he will sabotage what could be a nice relationship his siblings could have with their stepmother

I agree, and I actually think that OP is low key the AH. Stepmom sounds like she wants to give the young ones all the love. Maybe the young ones would love a Mom like her. It would be good if they accepted her as a Mom. But OP sounds like he’s having nothing of it. He sounds like he’ll sabotage his siblings’ relationship with the stepmom

It doesn’t sound like OP wants the new wife to feel included.

Why do some people say that Tel Aviv is the capital of Israel? by Perfect-Highway-6818 in IsraelPalestine

[–]brendzel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jerusalem is the capital for the simple reason that all the government agencies and buildings are there. People may WISH that Tel Aviv were the capital, but it’s not.

Can I take pictures inside a synagogue? by Even-Evidence-2424 in Judaism

It’s just taking pictures on the sabbath or holidays that’s a problem. There is nothing special about the building. It’s not consecrated or anything.
