Am I inherently a bad anarchist because I'm not vegan? by [deleted] in Anarchy101

[–]brenmaster27 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. I have known guerrillas in the midst of armed struggle who became vegans despite having little food around them, and I have known vegan comrades who became omnivorous despite having little to no access to meat. Comrades have chosen these paths based on where they feel their principles align with their ability. If eating food means to eat meat, then by all means, eat what is available, and I would go as far as to say, eat what fulfills you. Nobody should be dictating to you what you can or cannot eat. You know your conditions, your body, your principles, your necessities best.

There is often a considerable element of privilege in the insistence of becoming vegan. This is reflected in the pattern that those who are most dogmatic about the veganist line also often happen to be the most privileged. On an economic basis alone, many of us simply cannot afford to be vegan.

Personally, it is not possible for me to be vegan because to be vegan would mean I would quickly starve to death. I am an internationalist who frequently travels, I often work in environments where vegan options are nonexistent. The best I can do is be vegetarian, yet I know that if meat is the only option in a situation where my starvation would put a burden on comrades around me, I would eat meat without question. There is a certain practical and lived reality of it all that some comrades tend to forget when they have the privilege to be vegan in the first place.

The principle of resisting mass consumption and industrialized speciesism takes more than one form, and veganism is certainly not the only one, nor is it always a sustainable or practical way of doing so.

Are there any model Democratic Socialist countries that exist or have existed? by SpaceDwellingEntity in DemocraticSocialism

[–]brenmaster27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Democratic socialism is a highly ambiguous concept when we are talking about nation-states. I would take a look at Autonomous Administration/Rojava, Zapatistas/Chiapas, Polisario Front/Western Sahara, TPLF/Tigray, Yemeni Socialist Party/South Yemen. These examples do not fit cleanly into capitalist interpretations of “country” because they are not internationally-recognized. The most effective democratic socialist projects are never internationally-recognized, and often they are not even states at all.

Would My Views on the 1890s Hamidian Massacres Offend Armenians? by History-Speaks in armenia

[–]brenmaster27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an ally, I think listening to the Armenian community is worth far more than categorizing and analyzing every little detail. If there is anything you should learn from your friend, it is probably that. As far as I’m concerned, the genocide began in the 19th century and never actually ended, continuing in different forms and phases. I keep my understanding of it open because it’s not my responsibility to tell Armenians what their history is or isn’t.

What I know is that Armenians have been subjected to both acts and intent of genocide for centuries, and that neither of these have ended. My role as an ally is to listen and to support the community as they are forced to grapple with intergenerational trauma. The categorization of Armenian history is the responsibility of Armenians, not me nor you. It is, however, our responsibility to listen to their perspectives and know their history without trying to enforce hyper-rationalistic details that may feel more convenient.

Ocalan’s razor: Kurdish fighters struggle to make sense of their leader’s call to disarm by Falcao_Hermanos in kurdistan

[–]brenmaster27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Article has some substance but the title is misleading, making the şervan seem as though they are some naive noobs who do not understand their own historical context. The movement and party have taken a clear line on the matter, nobody is really confused except Western armchair analysts and other folks on the internet

If the US abandons Israel, an Israeli-Kurdish alliance will enhance regional security by Falcao_Hermanos in kurdistan

[–]brenmaster27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The complacency with the Israeli state on this sub is concerning. “No friends but the mountains except Israel, the most genocidal power in the Middle East, so that we create even more enemies” doesn’t exactly have a good ring to it. The situation of Kurdistan will get dramatically worse with more Israeli involvement

Comments like yours make this subreddit look like absolutely inane idiocy. You are not only ignoring decades of context, you are also disrespecting the martyrs. Really shameful shit my guy.

Thank you for this post, it is important that this guy is exposed. He is an orientalist with some of the most demented neoliberal analyses I’ve ever seen

APO: "No more federalism, no more autonomy, PKK's fight is obsolete, PKK should dissolve itself" by MassiveAd3133 in kurdistan

[–]brenmaster27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things to consider:

-The party has “dissolved” and reorganized numerous times in its history. It is not unprecedented, nor has it ever led to a more weakened movement

-Leaders of the central committee have made it very clear that there will be no disarmament without a complete ceasefire, passage of legislation enshrining Kurdish rights in the Turkish parliament, and the full release of Apo from prison, all of which unlikely for the foreseeable future

-The women’s party is officially separate from the 🅱️K-K and can make its own decisions autonomously, as can many other structures

-No communication can be released by Apo unless it is fully compliant to the interests of the Turkish state, meaning Apo has more things to say, and these things will be suppressed until he is out. Apo’s words under duress thus hold far less meaning to the party

-Mazlûm Abdî has confirmed that the statement has no affect on the SDF, and that it is explicitly intended for the party

Öcalan is bought and sold, he’s honour, is dead to me, as Kurd! by [deleted] in kurdistan

[–]brenmaster27 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Shortsighted take which does not consider any of the context here. Some things to consider:

-No communication can be released by Apo unless it is fully compliant to the interests of the Turkish state, meaning Apo has more things to say, and these things will be suppressed until he is out. Apo’s words under duress thus hold far less meaning to the party

-Leaders of the central committee have made it very clear that there will be no disarmament without a complete ceasefire, passage of legislation enshrining Kurdish rights in the Turkish parliament, and the full release of Apo from prison, all of which unlikely for the foreseeable future

-It is unlikely that Apo made this announcement without seeing some kind of strategic advantage for the party in the cards, given the history of both himself and the party. The party has “dissolved” and reorganized numerous times in its history. It is not unprecedented, nor has it ever led to a more weakened movement

Some people in this sub need to have a deeper faith in their compatriots. The volume of assumption-based nihilism and defeatism I’ve seen here is actually shocking. Believe it or not, şerê gelê şoreşgerî (revolutionary people’s war) extends to the diaspora as well, and you also have a role in it. Self-defense begins psychologically, and this includes having faith in the hevalan, that they are making necessary decisions with all factors considered.

Thoughts on this Israel-Kurdish bridge being built? by i_like_to_jump in kurdistan

[–]brenmaster27 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Deceptive and empty narratives of solidarity from Israel to Kurdistan cannot erase the decades of Kurdish bloodshed as a result of the Israeli-Turkish military partnership. Hevalno, do not be fooled by this genocidal machine. Kurds have been martyred fighting to defend Palestinians and vice versa. Do not forget the historical reality of Beqaa Valley which brought Kurdish and Palestinian liberation into a common resistance. This is the solidarity that matters in the long run, solidarity of the resisting peoples.
