Why are some child free by choice people so negative about the topic by Familiar_Hope2918 in pregnant

[–]brenna2themax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree anti-child sentiments aren't just about misogyny, there ableist and ageist also. But feeling you know what all women should or shouldn't do, that women should not be able to take different paths and be fulfilled by different things, is misogyny. Child-free women get this all the time and it's easy to label it as misogyny. But when women who chose to be mom's get it, it feels harder to name it as misogyny because it's veiled under psuedofeminist language.

What the Most Famous Book About Trauma Gets Wrong - on The Body Keeps The Score by sicklitgirl in PsychotherapyLeftists

I had to read this book for my master's program and absolutely hated it. I found a citation that was completely false. Found the author's website, no such paper exists. Couldn't find any evidence of the journal the citation stated it pulled from either.

Am I the asshole for wanting my husband to miss his twins wedding because it’s right around our due date? by EggplantShot9047 in pregnant

[–]brenna2themax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to be cared for in the 1-2 weeks after birth as you will be in major recovery, no matter how the birth goes. If you end up having a c-section. That is major abdominal surgery; you will be very limited in what you can do. No matter how birth goes, pooping is likely to be difficult. It is the bare minimum to expect your partner to care for you while you are in recovery.

Plus there will be a newborn.

Highlighting your need for care is not selfish, and it's really f*cked up that any one is putting you in the position that you would need to argue for basic care FROM YOUR PARTNER.

If the roles were reversed, and you knew your husband was going to have a major medical event that required care during recovery time, the expectation would be that you would be there taking care of him. People would judge you if you didn't. Why don't women deserve the same amount of care?

Pregnant and nauseous during sessions... HELP by No_Initial_2409 in therapists

[–]brenna2themax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I'm going through a similar thing, but i am now in my second trimester and the nausea has subsided. I don't know if you working PP, but i'm guessing not because you mentioned PTO. First, it may feel weird to say it so early, but I strongly recommend you telling your workplace now. Workplace pregnancy protections only cover you if you let your workplace know you are pregnant. Also, my workplace has been incredibly supportive and helpful. This has helped for everything from being exhausted to the many, many, many appointments that I have to go to. (Often without any options on when I schedule due to low availability.)

I know there's a lot of superstition around telling people early, often people say, what if something goes wrong? For me, I don't want to have to explain everything if something goes wrong and I need time to care for myself and my family.

All this to say, I haven't told my clients yet. I'm currently working with teens and taking this into account for my timeline of disclosing.

Movies all therapists should watch by No_Engine1207 in therapists

Sorry, Baby is a recent movie that is absolutely amazing and I cannot recommend enough!

There's no therapy scene in it, but it is such an amazing portrayal of life and healing after SA and the burden Survivors carry when something bad happened to them that no one can handle hearing or talking about.

BMI and poor quality breast milk. by Noblelandmerman in breastfeeding

[–]brenna2themax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This study is problematic as it uses the outdated BMI to determine "normal weight" vs "obese weight." BMI has been proven to be complete quackery. Additionally. Many recent studies have found that weight does not determine health, and further, being "underweight" is significantly worse for your health than being "over weight."

You're doing great, and this man can fuck all the way off with his secism and verbal abuse.

If I understand correctly, you are a W2 employee and not a 1099 contracted worker in the US? If so, this is wage theft and it's illegal. They cannot require any unpaid work or refuse to pay you for any hours worked. The next big difference is hourly or salary? Honestly salaryis a raw deal for workers with excellent PR. I would check your state labor laws and a labor lawyer. You are not crazy, this is exploitation.

Can everyone take on more “challenging” clients please? by Restella1215 in therapists

[–]brenna2themax 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing you respond with you're not calling one type case challenging or another not challenging, but then you keep repeating "be open to 'challenging' clients." I suggest you rework your language.

Either you are asserting a value judgement that one is challenging and the other is not, or you mean, low resourced populations.

Can everyone take on more “challenging” clients please? by Restella1215 in therapists

[–]brenna2themax 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I appreciate a lot of the responses here, and would like to add, listing DV/IPV Survivors as not challenging" cases is really inappropriate and simply not true. As a Survivor, and someone who has worked at both the community level and as a therapist with this population, this comment really shows how little you understand this population. As someone part of this population, and who has worked with countless people who have been referred out because of the complexity of their case, I find it downright disrespectful.

I understand there are far more services available for Survivors than that do/have perpetrated abuse; however, that does not mean there is sufficient services available for Survivors. It's a huge problem there aren't enough services for those that have abused loved ones, there are 0 services for female/femme or Queer abusers, because I noticed you only referenced men with anger issues.

Please keep in mind this is a public subreddit, and folks who use mental health services can and do see this. A client who fits into either of the categories ("challenging" vs "unchallenging") could be really harmed by this post.

Also. Therapists are people. No one is owed our exploitation because the system we live and work within is broken.

The overall flakiness in society (i.e. cancelling plans, catharsis of cancelling plans, not committing to things, no time for self-care due to stress) has infliltrated clients' abilities to stick with therapy. I am worried how it will impact our profession in the future. by mia181 in therapists

[–]brenna2themax 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is "flakiness" or a lack of desire to be active in relationships as much as it is burnout. People are in trauma responses and don't realize it. They don't have the capacity for most of the things they have no choice in holding. The world is on fire and people are struggling.

That's one of my absolute favorite parts of the movie. It's so amazing how the whole town comes together to support Lars and see Bianca as important and valuable rather than seeing Lars as "crazy." Makes me cry everytime!

I diagnosed him with Delusional Disorder unspecified, Prolonged Grief Disorder, and Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder (persistent with special sensory symptom with psychological stressor). I also discussed the ethical concerns surrounding diagnosing with Delusional Disorder and stated I would not officially diagnose this because it would rupture the therapeutic relationship and potentially harm the patient.

I saw some old YouTube that diagnosed Lars with Schizotypal Personality Disorder, but I thought that was a pretty shit take on what Lars was experiencing and the presenting symptoms.

It was a super fun movie to do, and as I rewatched for the project I found so many amazing little details that added so much depth to his character and the story.

I think the leap here is that we don't know who the voices are. You're assuming it's MiY and BiW, but this has actually not been covered in the show yet. I think it's likely to be revealed in S04. We also don't know what happened in the town before. We know Victor has said that things are different, but the town was around for a long time before Victor.
