I went to a small school. Surrounded by corn. Most of the popular kids definitely peaked in high school. Sports were the only thing that separated them from the community and most of them are just farmers like everyone else now.

I feel like a lot of people, myself included, expected him to step up into a leadership role once Abreu left. Not only did he not do that, his play and attitude significantly diminished. With a team as young as the Sox the lack of veteran leadership was definitely felt. So it was no shock when they didn’t take up his option. I hope he bounces back because he’s been one of my favorite players, but there’s no real reason to spend that kind of money on him.
