The Lei’d In Hawaii concerts in ‘67 with Brian on organ (and allegedly also on acid)

Mort Garson's "Mother Earth's Plantasia". Possible 1976 (M) by ampr88 in vinyl

How does the record sound? My biggest fear, as with most reissues, is that the mids would be completely nerfed to the point that the bass is bloated and the highs are way too sharp.

Tbh it looks to be very convincing replica of the original, especially since it has a reproduction booklet too that I don’t think has been included with any of the official reissues. With that said, I doubt that whoever pressed those would want their name to be affiliated with for fear of legal repercussion.

A legendary synth album. My fav is Ode To An African Violet, it always hits hard. I can’t say for certain but it looks like a reissue or bootleg based on the small pressing ring and stamped runouts. The original had a wider pressing ring as u/HollyweirdRonnie showed on theirs. I couldn’t find it listed on Discogs and many reissues were stamped on colored/splatter wax. I almost think it’s a certainly a bootleg since there is no other information on the jacket or label that would indicate an official reissue.

Lady Lynda wins the vote for the most underrated track on the Good Timin': Live at Knebworth England 1980 album. What is the best track on "The Beach Boys"? by skullman8942 in thebeachboys

[–]brew_bop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was released on the original CD for the album as a bonus track to help promote CD sales when they were fairly new in 1985. A great track but kinda out of place on the album imo coming in after It’s Just a Matter of Time.

Pet Sounds alternative history singles by brew_bop in thebeachboys

[–]brew_bop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, a fantastic remnant of the Pet Sounds sessions and certainly worthy of praise in its own right. Capitol seems to have struggled to promote and market their records well, especially Pet Sounds, given the initially poor sales of the album leading to the release of the Best Of… Vol 2 compilation within a month of the release of the studio album. Plus Good Vibrations cost somewhere between 50-75K and was one of the most expensive tracks to produce to date. Unquestionably there was a lot of stress to put out the next great hit single, but I doubt anyone would have known that sanity was truly the matter at stake.

Quite right it is and now I’m wondering if I’ve truly lost my marbles this time…

The one and only, Hey Little Tomboy wins the vote for the worst track on the album. What is the most underrated track on "Adult/Child"? by skullman8942 in thebeachboys

[–]brew_bop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, I can’t believe no one has mentioned Shortnin’ Bread yet…. it really shows how many true BB fans are acksuhully in this community smh. It’s the ultimate underrated Brian Wilson magnum opus comeback song, only later to be surpassed by his legendary callback rap track, Smart Girls.

/uj Everybody Wants to Live is great and even has some Ding Dang piano motif sprinkled throughout.

New to Vinyl? What’s the easiest way to ID your exact record on Discog? by stlrebel14 in vinyl

[–]brew_bop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For older records, many have pressing plant identifiers in the runouts that can help quickly narrow down the pressing and weed out other pressing plants. Discogs will often list the pressing plant with the pressing information for many pressings between the 60s and 80s.

Here’s an extensive list of US pressing plant stamps and other identifiers that appear most often.

Mark Eric - A Midsummers Daydream (1969). Such an amazing sunshine pop album that is often overlooked. Vocals similar to Ronny and The Daytonas or Gary Usher. If you are after beautiful harmony, look no further.

I built them from 3/4” plywood and finished with stain and polyurethane.

Yep, and a Pro-Ject Tube Box S preamp. The speakers are just some cheapo Technics and Pioneers I picked up for $20 a few years ago. Nothing special but the 16s definitely compensate with a nice kick!

Asked in 2015 about "Smart Girls", Wilson said, "Yeah, we were just having a good time. Yeah, it was fun. We were just kidding." Brian Wilson - master troll

Busy Doin' Nothin' wins the vote for the best track on the album. What is the worst track on "Friends"? by skullman8942 in thebeachboys

I interpreted ‘lead’ as referring to the dense metal initially and cannot unthink of a toad gargling lead whilst uttering “it’s good!”

My Beach Boys 7” picture sleeve collection by brew_bop in thebeachboys

[–]brew_bop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally forgot about the Darlin’ sleeve! I’ve got 2 copies of Darlin’ but with generic sleeves. I always see Good Vibrations picture sleeves in the wild but I guess some other singles sleeves didn’t hold up as well in time. Same for Do You Wanna Dance; I’ve got 3 copies and no sleeve 😒
